In Loving Memory of Avis Bonita Duhart

Avis Bonita Duhart, also affectionately known as "Bonnie," was born April 22, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Judge Duhart, Jr., and Annie Kate Duhart. Avis was educated in the Detroit Public School system and graduated from Atkinson Elementary School, Farwell Junior High, and Pershing High School. Atkinson's graduation, she received a unique special award for perfect attendance from kindergarten through the sixth grade with no absences or tardiness.

Bonnie graduated from Pershing High School (Class of 1973) as a National Honors Society member. She also lettered and played on the varsity field hockey team. Bonnie was very active in Girl Scouts throughout grade school. In elementary, she achieved numerous awards and merit badges throughout her tenure (including Girl Scout Cookie Sales awards) as a Brownie Girl Scout. She continued participation into high school as a Senior Girl Scout, achieving the highest recognition, the Girl Scout Gold Award.

She accepted admission to the University of Michigan. She selected Michigan to start her college education. While at U of M, she pledged Zeta Phi Beta Sorority in 1974, lived in the Zeta Sorority House, and worked for Hudson department store. She was an avid football and basketball fan and proudly continued to cheer "Go Blue!" over the decades. Avis graduated with her bachelor's degree from U of M in 1977. She received her MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2012.

Avis enlisted in the United States Air Force on April 23, 1980, and completed training as a medical Lab Craftsman. She traveled on assignments to Colorado, Texas, Germany, Turkey, Japan, and California throughout her military career. Avis retired as TSGT on April 30, 2004.  After her military service, she joined the VA Northern California Health Care System as a medical technologist. Avis worked at Mather, Martinez, and Oakland VA hospitals throughout her 17-year span.

In December 1983, she married Joseph Collins. To this union, two children were born: daughters Ramonda Nicole and Natalie Chyvon Collins. She later divorced in 2011 and never remarried.  Throughout her life, Avis enjoyed traveling, shopping, collecting figurines, playing bingo, and was an avid slot player at the local casinos. She enjoyed talking and spending time with her friends. Most of all, she loved to give to others.

On Wednesday afternoon, she departed this life, January 20, 2021, at David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base, California.  She leaves to cherish her memories daughters: Ramonda and Natalie; five siblings, Valiant, Eric, Pierre, James, and Jeanette; one Uncle Leroy and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dearest friends.
