The world lost a beloved mother, wife and friend, Barbara "Barb" Burns, on October 21, 2021. Barb battled Multi Myeloma but it never stopped her from living. Barb passed away comfortably and peacefully surrounded by her husband and children. Ron, Heidi, Randee and Andrea.  Barb was born in St. Louis Park on December 10, 1944 to Arnie and Ethel Silberman (Sills).

It is incredibly difficult to sum up the life of your mother nor the impact and influence Barb had on those around her. She has left a lasting imprint on our hearts and minds of those her knew her.
Barb loved to love people. To her, a stranger was just a friend she hadn't met yet. She loved to write poems and stories to her grandchildren. She was an amazing gardener, baker and cook who sold many goods at the Michigan City Farmers market.
She loved to travel, and with her husband Ron, they traveled the country, coast-to- coast visiting national parks and meeting new people with their dog, Carney.

Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren. There was never a day where she didn't brag about all of them. To her they where a gift always to be treasured.

She is remembered by her husband, Ronald Burns and her daughters, Heidi Welbig, of Shoreview, MN, her three children Taylor Caligiuri, Nick Caligiuri, Austin Welbig; Randee Manley of Scottsdale, AZ and husband David Manley; Andrea Gepner of Melissa, TX and her son Evan Gepner; and all her family and friends across the country who she loved. She is survived by her sister, Myrna Robbins and her husband Kenny Robbins.

There will be a celebration of life at a date to be determined in Surprise, AZ. For donations please contact the International Myeloma Foundation or mail donations to

I will always remember Barb’s sense of humor. Her laugh was infectious. I don’t have to close my eyes to see all of us around the seder table at my Aunt Ethel’s. BBQs in our backyard. The Hokey Pokey. Duke of Earl. I will always remember growing up with my dear cousin and I will never forget her.

May my cousin Barb Rest In Peace. She was fearless, curious, loving, and for her it was all about family. She worked hard her whole life and made lots of friends along the way. We will miss her-zikranot livracha.

One of my mom's poems

October 25, 2021
My mom loved her grandchildren and wrote poems for and about them. I thought I would share this one:

GRANDMA AND ME
Grandma and I  went out one day
We were going to the park to play
As I walked I   looked up to the sky
Watching a  new little bird learn to fly
why grandma I  said I wish I could fly  way up there
then become a pilot she said and fly everywhere
Grandma and I went out to the store
We were going  buy clothes and lots more
As we walked around the mall
I noticed a little boy trip and  fall
Why grandma I said I wish I could help him heal
Then become a doctor  she said and  you will
Grandma and I went to visit a friend who  was sick
I was going to cheer her up by doing a trick
While walking there we smelled smoke in the air
Then we saw flames shooting from a house over there
Why grandma I said I want to make that fire go away
Then become a fireman and you will someday
Grandma and I were off to visit  the zoo
To see the monkeys, elephants and giraffes too
When we saw a mother  who lost her little boy
Crying ,yelling , holding on tight to his toy
Why grandma I said couldn’t we help find him
Then become a policemen she said with a grin
Grandma and I were going to the lake
Carrying a picnic basket and a chocolate cake
We watched as a family went into the water
A baby brother, sister, mother and father
Why grandma the boy doesn’t  know how to swim
Then become a lifeguard and you can teach him
Grandma and I were just sitting on the swing
Just talking about this and that and everything
When Grandma asked what I wanted to be
A plumber, nurse, teacher or captain of the sea
Why grandma I don’t know I said with a smile
Then just stay a child she said for a little while.
