Helena, AL - Barbara Faye Goodridge, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and compassionate nurse, peacefully entered God's Heavenly Glory on May 26, 2023, at the age of 68. Surrounded by her loving family, Barbara's journey on Earth came to an end, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and care for others.
Barbara was born on September 28, 1954, in Evansville, Indiana. She was one of eight children born to Thomas and Mildred Burch, and she cherished the close bonds she shared with her siblings Verlin, Gary, Annie "Sis", Donald, Carolyn "Sue", Sherry, and Debbie. Barbara's upbringing in Evansville laid the foundation for a life dedicated to family.
In 1972, Barbara began an adventure when she married her first husband and relocated to Texas from her small hometown. She embraced the finer lifestyle and made several life-long friends. She worked for Spectronics, working on early electronic chips. She enjoyed spending time supporting her friends who were on the band circuit in the Dallas area. In 1977, after their divorce, she made a fresh start in Denver, Colorado, where she gave birth to her beloved daughter, Heather in 1978.
It was during this time that Barbara discovered her true calling and embarked on a career in nursing. Fueled by her innate desire to care for others, she completed Nursing School, earning her LPN Degree. Soon after starting her career, Barbara met her second husband and welcomed her treasured son, Brian, into the world. She worked as a dedicated nurse, making an incredible impact on the life of her patients while juggling being a mom and wife as well. She spent the 1980's living between Denver, Colorado, and Dallas, Texas.
After her divorce from her second husband, Barbara returned to her hometown of Evansville in the early 1990s. There, she found love and companionship with her best friend and soulmate, Tommy Goodridge. They enjoyed many common interests including a weekly bowling league. Their love carried them through the challenges and stress of military life, as they moved across various locations due to Tommy's assignments. They resided in Minnesota, New Jersey, finally settling in Alabama. Once in Alabama, and with the decline of her health,  They welcomed Tommy's mother into their home to help with Barbara's care.
Barbara had a vibrant personality and a diverse range of interests. She was a fan of the Gilmore Girls and Dr. Who, eagerly following their captivating stories. Mexican cuisine, Margaritas, and Big Red Soda delighted her taste buds and she relished when she was able to savor these culinary delights. Barbara's love for literature was insatiable, and she immersed herself in the pages of countless books, broadening her horizons with each reading adventure. Her favorite recent reads included those of her daughter of which she was incredibly proud.
Despite facing declining health in recent years, Barbara's faith only grew stronger. Through many conversations with her Sisters Annie and Sherry, and her daughter, she reaffirmed her belief and faith in the Lord. Near the end of her life, she found solace and strength in her relationship with God, drawing inspiration and comfort from her unwavering belief. She will be remembered for her quick wit, fierce loyalty, and candid honesty. Barbara's love for her children and family knew no bounds.  Reflecting on her life before her passing, she expressed her gratitude for her the people in her life and thankfulness for God's Grace and Redemption.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mildred Burch, and her siblings, Donald Hall and Carolyn Sue Tison.
