Brief memory on Barbara

October 5, 2013

I am Remmele Hinton, the youngest son of Barbara's Sister Shirley.  Unfortunately I did not know Barbara well, however, I did on a couple of occasions call her when I lived in California in the 1980's.  I recall in the few conversations I had with Barbara that she had a very strong faith in God and was very easy to speak to regarding matters of faith.  She was an encouraging person to talk with as well.   The conversations I had with Barbara were always pleasant and Barbara clearly seemed to have a genuine love for people, and especially her family.

Spiritual Life

October 5, 2013

Both my parents were ordained ministers. They attended Glad Tidings in San Franscisco and were active teachers, and ministers.

When first Married, they lived in Huston, and there is a photo here showing mom with all sorts of taping equipment.  This is where  (I think) they did their writing and radio show production.

Mom's family

October 5, 2013

Mom is survived by her brother Jim and his daughter Laura.  Also her  nephews,  Lee, Michael, Remmele, the sons of her late sister Shirley. They are all talented in the arts.

Mom channeled her creative  skills in business, where she was a  Candy Buyer at the Late (and much missed by me) Marshall Fields of Chicago.  Every year, my grade school class would always get some of the famous "Frango Mints".  She even took one of my grade school classes through a tour of the candy department, and they got to see how candy was made.  that was a hit!

Millie and Mom

October 5, 2013

Millie Head and Mom are and were, lifelong friends.  They knew each other as children  and were as Millie says "closer than sisters".  They shared a common love of faith,  supporting each other through joy and struggles.    Love you Millie

Madam Barbara

October 5, 2013

We went to a surprise birthday party for the brunette next to the lady in blue (mom).
Mom decided she was going as a Fortune Teller.  Of course, she brought the house down.  Here you see her telling Michelle she would mary a tall handsome man (her husband:)

This was so Mom, so characteristic of her playfullness and spontenaity.

Mom showed me the world

September 30, 2013

When I was 6 years old (1956), mom took me with her on a trip to the Orient.   We went to the Phillippines,  Hong Kong, and Japan.   Where ever she went, mom made new friends.

For example:

The owners of the hotel in Hong Kong, a retired General who served under Chaing Kai Chek, and his wife,  would later send their daughter to live with us while she went to  a Christian college near us in Oak Park, Il.

In Japan we stayed with relatives while visiting various places in Japan. We experienced other religions, cultures and values.  And kindness, lots of it.

This experience shaped my life, my values and a vision of the world where everyone is unique, special and deserving of love and happiness.

Thank you mom, for giving me this wonderful gift of love for the world.
