her Life
Barbara Sue (Autry) Birch passed away peacefully in her South San Francisco home Friday, February 19.  She is survived by Lawrence (Larry), her devoted husband of 61 years; sons Lawrence, Jr. (Perry), Roderick, Timothy, and Jonathan; grandchildren Lawrence III, Cassandra, Tyler, Trenton and Cameron; and sister Cecelia. She was 80 years old.

Barbara was born on January 3, 1941 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the third of four daughters born to Alphis and Thais (Hamilton) Autry.  She moved with her family to California as a teenager, graduating from Jefferson High School in Daly City in 1959.  She and Larry eloped to Reno, Nevada on January 16, 1960 and started a family soon after.

She worked for the phone company until leaving to be a stay-at-home mom, later helping out part-time at the boys’ elementary school and eventually returned to the workforce as a teller at Wells Fargo Bank.  She also worked as a dispatcher for the Daly City Police Department and as a supervisor at Macy’s.

Barbara greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially during holidays and on camping trips.  She also made a yearly pilgrimage with friends to Reno to play her favored game of blackjack.  An avid reader, she was known to devour three to four novels a week checked out from her beloved local library.  Other pursuits included bowling, and tennis, both as a player and fan.

Barbara, Mom, Mama will be remembered lovingly by all who were blessed to know her, as a sweet and giving person, completely without judgment or conceit.

She will be greatly missed.
