Tributes
Leave a tributeI am in Spain with Simon, Jo and Ellie close to where Barry, Simon, Richard and I used to caravan holiday when Simon and Richard where small. Anne and Margaret came with us on one of our visits and Barry’s Dad and Mum on another.
The Spanish loved Simon and Richard I guess it was their blonde and ginger hair.
Simon remembers eating chicken and chips in the town.
It was a lovely campsite on the beach next to a railway line. The trains reminded us of something from the Wild West - times change they don’t look like that now.
The boys loved playing in the sea. We have lovely photos of our visits.
I remember us walking around in the evening and watching the local Spanish campers cooking enormous pans of paella
Leave a Tribute
On Barry’s Birthday 6/9/2018
I went to lay flowers at Barry’s Memorial at Hawkinge Crematorium today - Barry’s Birthday.
While leaving the flowers I could hear being played from the Chapel, Frank Sinatra singing ‘My Way’. The Song that was played as we were leaving the Chapel at Barry’s funeral.
And as always when I am visiting Barry’s Memorial a little plane flew overhead.
Barry Page Boy with His brother David in 1949
In 1949 Barry and his brother David were page boys for Lily and Cyril Reader. Barry’s Mother Frances was Lily’s Cousin. Barry and his family spent wonderful holidays with Lily and Cyril at Stablehurst where Cyril worked on a farm. Barry loved the time he spent on the farm. Barry always wanted his own farm.
After leaving the farm to live at Darenth, Barry spent a lot of fun time in the company of Lily and Cyril at his parents home in Avery Hill Road.
Cyril died on the 9th April 2018. The same date as Barry but 2 years later - 9th April 2016.

The rose beyond the wall - A. L. Frink
Near a shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God's free light,
Watered and fed by the morning dew,
Shedding it's sweetness day and night.
As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.
Onward it crept with added strength
With never a thought of fear or pride,
It followed the light through the crevice's length
And unfolded itself on the other side.
The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before,
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing it's fragrance more and more.
Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint and fall?
Nay! Let us faith and hope receive--
The rose still grows beyond the wall,
Scattering fragrance far and wide
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forever-more.
