Benjamin Elliott - A humble Man of God

April 4, 2019

Benjamin Bruce Elliott "Ben", 86, of Indian Trail, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning, April 3, 2019. Ben is survived by his daughter, Barbara Watson of Bunn, NC; son Joseph Elliott (Kathy) of Indian Trail, NC; grandchildren Deborah Denton (Jason) of Bunn, NC, Sherry Perry (Kevin) of Elm City, NC, Shannon Watson of Nashville, NC, Zack Elliott of Indian Trail, NC and Taylor Elliott of Indian Trail, NC; his four great-grandchildren Natalie Denton, Ryan Riese, Joshua Ayers and Mason Williamson and another on the way; along with multiple nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by wife Marion of 40 years; his Mother Mamie Ward and Father Ambrose Vernon Elliott; brothers Thomas, Haines, A.V.; sisters Eloise Spivey, and Ophelia Glover. Benjamin was born in Tabor City, North Carolina on May 28, 1932 to his parents, and lived there until drafted into the US Navy after graduating from high school. Upon returning home from serving in the Korean War, he married Marion Hill and moved to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, then eventually to Rocky Mount, North Carolina where they raised their family together. He and Marion owned O.K. Clothing in Rocky Mount where he also ran his private insurance agency. In 1997, they adopted and raised 3 of their grandaughters. Hurricane Floyd destroyed their home in 1999, but Ben's strong faith kept his family safe from harm. Ben relocated to the Charlotte area near his son in 2010, shortly after his wife's passing. He was an amazing Man of God and a wonderful Father, Son, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Great-Grandfather. He was a member of Englewood United Methodist Church where he played active roles from singing bass in the choir to serving with The Methodist Men and their peanut ministry. His humor and fun-loving nature made it impossible for all who met him not to fall in love with him. He has impacted so many lives and will be forever loved, remembered and missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of his precious life will be held at Englewood United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount, NC on Sunday, April 14th at 2pm for all to attend.

A private memorial service for immediate family will also be held in Zoan, South Carolina at a later date.
