ForeverMissed

It is with great sadness we share that our beloved Benjamin Kyle Lesser, age 19, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 11, 2021 after a 15-month heroic battle against leukemia.

A cherished son, brother, family member, and friend, Ben left a resounding impact on us all with his kindness, generosity, and ever-present smile. He was a fun-loving guy who brought so much happiness to those around him.

Ben was a natural athlete and loved watching and playing sports. He began snow skiing at age 2, and enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, soccer, and running cross country. He excelled in whatever he tried, but his is true passions were running and soccer. He was a top runner on the Walt Whitman High School Cross Country and Track & Field teams, and he represented Walt Whitman High School in the Maryland State Cross Country Championships during his freshman through senior years.

Throughout his illness, Ben was forever brave and courageous, and never complained about the health challenges he was facing. He was grateful for the amazing care he received from his healthcare providers at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., and thankful for the continuous and loving support from his family, friends, and the community. He was especially appreciative of those who donated life-saving blood and platelets to benefit him and the other patients in need at Children's Hospital. In memory of Ben, we encourage continued contributions of blood and platelets to the Children’s National Hospital Blood Donation Center (cnmcblooddonor.com).

A memorial service for Ben is planned for Thursday, August 5. If you would like to attend please contact the family for details.

In memory of Ben, I just want to share about the Lesser family:

First of all, I want to say thank you to Kelley for taking the time to answer my questions every day about Ben when he was in the Hospital. Kelley loves Ben so much. I won't forget Kelley crying a lot of times and requesting for us to pray and give donations of platelets for Ben.

By that time, it was really tough for me not to be able to visit Ben because he was so sick, only his parents were allowed to be with him.

Being his first live in nanny, I love Ben so much. I moved in a month before he was born. He was always such a sweet baby boy- healthy and happy. He and his sister grew up fast. Even after I left their family for another job, our friendship still continued.

They have always invited me for special occasions with their family. One day, when I heard from Ben's father, Allen, that Ben had cancer and was in the hospital- I was so upset. I prayed every day that he would be healed. When he went home for his 19th birthday, we talked a lot! We talked about going out to eat when he recovered. A few days after his 19th birthday, when we were talking on the phone, he told me that he loved me and I told him, "you are still my baby!"

I remember our every day life with Ben and his family very well. Ben's dad, Allen, was the BEST father! Even the children's grandmother's would talk about it. Besides his busy job, he always found time to spend with his kids Ben & Jack. I appreciate him so much.

He went back the hospital one more time. I was broken hearted, worried, and praying.  God is merciful and gracious. Sometimes, I encouraged Ben to pray to God. During that time, when he was getting closer to passing away, he wasn't able to talk. I prayed to God at that time and my heart was filled with this worship song" "He Knows My Name". This song was on my heart for more than a month as I though about Ben. This was a comfort to me.

May the Lord comfort the Lesser family in their every day life. This is my special prayer. I love you all.

Dear Kelly and Family, it is with great sadness and empathy that I hear of your son Ben passing. This is the most unnatural experience when our kids pass before us under any circumstances, i am so very sorry for your loss. While I do understand some of the feelings your are experiencing, everyone's grief journey is different. For us god has been the rock that has kept us together as a family and individually gave us hope for each day. And even though we have been years apart Kelly please do not hesitate to call (904-318-0797) if i can be another ear to listen or help with what our experiences have taught us since losing our Jack on 12/22/2019. God bless you and the family; peace be with you! John 14:27

What a beautiful boy and an enormous loss for all. The joy that is captured in Ben’s face in these photos brings us light in a dark time. How lucky those who knew Ben are to have the wonderful memories they will carry forever.
