It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bernadine Joel. She was taken from us by unknown causes at the age of 53.
Bernadine was born and raised in Hamilton Ontario. She moved and travelled extensively throughout her life, but her strongest roots were in Sackville, New Brunswick, where she chose to raise her family. She had an exciting and multifaceted career, working for companies such as the Archdiocese of Toronto, Deloitte & Touche, and Medavie Blue Cross. She had an entrepreneurial spirit and was part of several startups, including Atlantic Lean Manufacturing, and a small bistro called the Pear Tree. Bernadine was a talented chef who cooked countless memorable dishes for her friends and family. She also enjoyed gardening, travelling, and adventures of all kinds. She was politically active in her later years, and cared deeply about promoting the rights of workers, women, immigrants, and the LGBT community.
Among other things, Bernadine was loved for her wicked sense of humor, her exceedingly generous, kind-hearted nature, and her reputation for being an honest and genuine person. She was someone who thought about things thoroughly, felt everything deeply, and lived life to the absolute fullest. She leaves behind her two children, Michael and Samantha, as well as many friends and extended family. She will be missed terribly.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to M.A. Clark & Sons Funeral Home, 567 Upper Wellington Street, Hamilton Ontario.
The service will take place at 2pm on Sunday, March 17, with a reception to follow. Viewing will also be available from 12-2pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bernadine's life.
