Condolences to Bert’s friends and family on his passing. Bert and I became very close during our days at the rotary club. Bert’s father, Euston Commission, and my father, Hubert Toney, both advanced to the rank of station sergeant in the Royal St. Vincent Police Force. Bert’s relationship with my maternal grandmother was also very close. Bert told me that my grandmother loved him as a son, and he practically grew up with her.
JoyMay he Rest In Peace, and may light perpetual shine on him.

My sincere condolences to all the family on Uncle Bert's passing, from me, Carol Taylor, my mother, Ermine Lindsay (nee John) and the rest of our family. Bert and my father Carlton Taylor were the best of friends and they spent time as young men in London together, studying and working together before Uncle Bert returned to live in St Vincent. They kept in touch over the years - Dad visiting St Vincent and Bert visiting London. Uncle Bert was a cherished godfather to me and I have many happy memories of him. I became a solicitor and judge and I attribute his influence on my choice of profession. Our family was so pleased to spend some time with Uncle Bert in St Vincent in 2019. He had lost none of his joy for life which could be heard in that hearty laughter of his. During that last visit, Uncle Bert joined our family in an occasion to bid a fond final farewell to his old friend, Carlton; I like to think that he and Dad are having a grand reunion. RIP Uncle Bert

I got to know Bert just about a year or so ago and his warm and welcoming personality made it easy for us to quickly become friends. There was never a moment without laughter whenever we met. May your soul soar among the angels and your memory live on in our hearts. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again.

One of my fondest memories of Mr. Commissiong was in 2018 while on a fun walk. He entertained us with stories of every village we passed and each story was more interesting than the previous one. On this walk, I discovered he had an immaculate memory and could recall events in great detail whether it transpired five (5) minutes or fifty (50) years ago.

My heart is with you in your time of sorrow. Life is so precious and death "our last enemy," such a thief. Though my words can do little, I hope my thoughts and prayers will support you at this time.

The apostle Paul expressed his confident hope when he said, "I believe all the things said forth in the law and written in the Prophets; and I have hope towards God, which hope these men themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."-Acts 24:14,15.

May Mr. Commissiong rest in peace.

It was just a few months ago, I came home to SVG to celebrate the life of my mother and Bert was one of the people who was there to help lift me up ,knowing the situation I was in not being able to attend my mother's funeral. Although Bert was recuperating from a surgery he went out of his way to make sure that I can enjoy my stay in SVG. Selfless he was and caring , he will always find a way to make you comfortable.
But while man sleep the enemy of souls worketh and so Bert was taken from us but we have hope Knowing that God has given us the assurance that he holds the key to life and death . Thus God told us that the day will come when he will put an end to Death and there will be no more pain and there will be no more sorrow. Hold on and be blessed ,be comforted and be encouraged.

TRIBUTE TO BERTRAM E. COMMISSIONG QC (BERTOS') - Ruggles Ferguson

Our dear colleague, BERTRAM E. COMMISSIONG QC passed away on Monday 8th March 2021, in St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the age of 90 after ailing for a few months.

Bert was still very much lively and up and about within the last year. He was a former Vice President of the OECS Bar Association with whom I enjoyed a close, personal and professional relationship.

He was consistent in OECS bar meetings, particularly between 1998, when I first met him and 2013. He was one of the elders, always ready to lend support and give guidance. He was able to relate comfortably with all age groups.

Apart from the SVG Bar, Bert was once an active member of both the Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago Bar Associations.

First admitted to practice in Guyana in 1967, he has spent well over 50 years in active practice. In 1993 he was elevated to Queen's Counsel. Before that, he had also lectured for several years at the Hugh Wooding Law School.

Bert was a big supporter of the the annual OECS Law Conference (formerly Law Fair), since it became a prominent and permanent agenda item in 2004.

Bert was passionate about the law, very engaging, and possessed a great sense of humor, with a hearty and infectious laugh.

He was a great storyteller who loved to relate many of his life experiences, especially when he worked in Guyana and represented some of the leading political figures there.

Bert was a sharp thinker who looked at matters with a critical eye. He was many times scathing in his criticisms. Sharp-tongued, he was never afraid to make his views known. He was both gracious and generous, though at times very stubborn and mischievous.

We shall miss you 'Bertos' (a name with which I had affectionately christened him)

Rest In Peace dear brother and colleague!

Ruggles Ferguson

Dear Mira, I was so saddened to learn today of Bert's recent passing. He was a fine person and a first class attorney. Please share my sympathies with other members of his family.

Mr. Commissiong and my dad shared a wonderful bond over many years in the legal profession in Trinidad. He, Mira and their family were like an extended family to us. His laughter lit up the room and could lift your mood once you heard it. Thanks for your stellar service to the Caribbean, QC. Mira, our prayers are with all of you. May the grace of God grant you comfort.

Bert was a friend and colleague with whom I joined to serve humanity. Being a member in various organizations, he gave of his time and vast experience generously and selflessly. Be it a project in the Carib country or at Victoria Park, Bert took time out from his daily avocation to be charitable to others and in particular the unfortunate souls in our community.
In his life, wherever Bert may have fallen short, may the Almighty forgive him so that he could enter triumphantly into the kingdom above. So may it be!

When you get to know a person...I am so happy to have known you. You made storytelling so easy on the ear. Your candor was so refreshing, laughter so infectious and humor!!! I am laughing even now. Will hold dear those memories....until.

My friendship with Bertram began when we were at the St Vincent Boys' Grammar school. I still visualise the big, bold, shiny forehead , and the mischievous smile of welcome whenever we met. The most memorable event was when we were both 'blackbooked' for a naughty event.
Farewell dear friend. I regret that the decrepitude of old age does not permit me to attend your funeral and to read these few words. - Sir Cecil Cyrus

I had the pleasure of meeting Burt just a few years ago. I always enjoyed his conversations....listening to him. A special memory is driving with him from Port of Spain to Chaguanas one rainy night in 2018.....the drive was too short. I feel blessed that our paths crossed. A truly beautiful gentleman.
Godspeed❤

Cousin Bert, the news of your illness and subsequent passing was so very sad. I will remember you fondly especially from my early days in practice when we would speak about a number of issues, legal and non-legal. I will also remember many years ago when you chuckled quite amused at a j'ouvert portrayal that Lisa and I shared. You thought it was so clever. You will remain fondly in my memories. Your quick wit, humour and affable nature always made it so easy to chat with you for hours. You graciously accepted to speak at my call and revealed aspirations about my father, your first cousin, that I never knew. I am sad that these times kept me from saying my good byes. Sleep in peace until that great getting up morning.

Uncle Bert, you were like a second father to me while I was growing up. I have fond memories of you staying at our home and you and my dad laughing heartily. That laugh was contagious. You were always present for special events whether it was for me or Azaria and I remember you saying she was like your own grand- daughter. She loved you dearly as you loved her and I saw that special bond between you two as she grew up. I remember us meeting you in the hallways of the office building and having conversations on the stairs. I remember hearing your infectious laughter through the office petitions and sometimes having chills as it reminded me so much of daddy. Our last conversation in the hospital was wonderful and I will forever remember your strong voice that day asking about Azaria, how the practice was going and just wanting to catch up. I am happy that my last memory of you is a happy one. I will miss you Uncle Bert. Sleep in Peace.
