Bessie Marrow Tingen Newton, 85, a longtime resident of Vance County, passed away Thursday October 9, 2014 at Universal Healthcare in Oxford.

A native of Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Abner and Laura Keeton Tingen and the widow of Thomas H. Newton. She was a member of Marrow’s Chapel Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Rev. Darrell Bowles. Burial will be in the Marrows Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are one son, Garrett Thomas Newton of Oxford, two daughters, Delores N. Jones of Bullock, Diane N. Williamson of Clarksville, Va., two sisters, Annie Laurie Short of Rockingham, Peggy T. Cox of Bullock, a brother, David Tingen of Henderson, two granddaughters and five grandsons and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Carol Propst and Jacolyn Claiborne and sister Carolyn T. Wilson, brothers Wilton, Melvin, Charlie, Ernest, Algie and A.G. Tingen.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford and at other times at the home of her granddaughter, Betty Ann Jones.
