I met Betty in 1987-88. Sadly, I never had a chance to meet Dick. He had just passed away when I came to Annandale. Betty always amazed me, how she kept on going. She WAS the energizer bunny!  She was the kindest, sweetest, and most generous lady. I am so blessed to have known her and what a wonderful example she set for me.

Ms. Betty, you will definitely be forever missed!

I met Betty when I first came to Northern Virginia to work in 1986. I came to Annandale church of Christ to Worship.  Betty's husband died shortly after I came and I never got to know him which was a great loss for me. I was looking for a home, not just a room and heard Betty might have a room to rent.  Betty invited me to come spend the night with her so we could get acquainted. We talked until about 2:00 am and got up the next morning at around 6:30am to shop at Frugal Fannies.  This began the most wonderful friendship that has lasted until her last breath. I love her dearly and I don't know where I would be today if it hadn't been for her friendship, love and encouragement, not to mention a home for 10 years. We had the most wonderful time together. She was the kindest, sweetest, gentle, caring person and best Christian lady. She set a wonderful example of what a Christian should be. She was famous for her hospitality and after she spent more and more time in California, people would call and say I usually stay with Betty when I come to Virginia and I would say come and stay with us, I'm sure she would want you to. My husband, Mike Cook went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2020. I long to be with Mike, Betty and all the saints that have gone on. What a wonderful reunion that will be. My prayers are with all the family. We will always miss her.

Betty became a part of my life in the early 1960s at the Wilmington Church of Christ. She was always such a positive friendly lady and one who made people of all ages feel that she was their friend. When her husband was transferred to Virginia, her son, Herb, stayed in California living with the Fletchers and attending Narbonne High School (I think) where why sister went to school and ultimately relationships within relationships grew and grew.
One never knows how much people influence our lives. Attending worship services wherever she was, meeting so many people, friendships grew wherever she lived. I had the privilege of knowing her sister and brother-in-law, the Hargers, and her son, Herbie.
It was at a mutual friend's 90th birthday celebration, Alma Lea Reynolds, that I was privileged to reconnect with Betty and Herb. What a blessing! Catching up after 50 years was WONDERFUL!
I invited April and Betty to an annual December Tea in Lakewood, CA a few years ago. Perhaps 30 ladies were there from here and yon. One guest reconnected with Betty having met her in Virginia at church. She was truly overwhelmed to be able to visit with Betty after so much time had passed and so many miles traversed. Connecting the dots of relationship, the Ven diagrams of association, just proves that we are influenced by all those who come into our lives. She was indeed a very positive influence in my life.

Like so many others at Annandale church of Chris,t we considered the Heitmeyers dear family members. Dicks death still is engraved in my mind as a shocking event. However, Betty was such a strong and powerful example to us. Sonny and I rented their Fairfax home and even added to our family there.
Such fond memories and have thought about Betty through the years.
See you in heaven, Ms Betty.

I miss you Nana. The only thing that brings me comfort is knowing that you are now with Dad & Ricky. I know dad met you with the biggest smile on his face and huge open arms! He loved you more than anything! I am happy that you are at peace now and with our angels in heaven. Please watch over us all. I will miss you so much but know that someday we will all be together again.
I love you Nana Betty!

I feel so blessed to have known Betty. She was so much more than just a friend, she was my special sister-in-Christ. Betty had an amazing twinkle in her eyes at all times. Betty was blessed with a special family. Lisa was more and beyond just a daughter....very special. Betty will always be in my heart. We had so many good times.  Big hugs.

I had the opportunity to meet Betty through a good friend from church. Joan Marks, who used to attend the Church of Christ in Wilmington (Lomita) she said Betty was looking for a live in companion. That was the beginning of a good friendship.
She was small in stature, but made up for it with her spunky personality. After a few months with her, I was in the restroom & heard a 'thud', I thought, "that can't be good".  I went out to the kitchen ... and there was Betty on the floor. I asked, "are you ok?".  She moaned, "No". I called 911. When I hung up the phone, I told her they were on the way. She said, "Get me my lipstick". A bit stunned, but as a good friend - I went and got her lipstick.
This would be the first of my many adventures with my friend Betty.
Will miss you, my friend.
I am also thankful to have gotten to know her daughter, Lisa who did so much for her Mom. Betty loved her dearly. I will be praying for her & the rest of the family as they go through this difficult time

Words cannot express my feelings for Betty. She was more than a sister to me. We shared many loving times together. Betty who was named after aunt Betty May, was someone I always looked up to, I was younger than Betty and used to pester her frequently. She never became angry. We laughed together, played together, and after I finally grew up we did some business together.
Betty very often reminded me of our mother who provided the strong Christian background that each of her five children were taught.
I loved Betty so very much from the time I was old enough to realize what love meant until this day. I will always remember the times we shared and the things we did together. I look forward to the times we will spend together with Dick, Rubel, Herby, J P, Cecil, Edwin, Oliver, Mary, Herbert and Kitty our Mom and Dad and many others. The future looks great!!!

Peggy and I met the Heitmeyers when we moved to Virginia in 1979. I remember the singings we had in their beautiful home. Betty was such a comfort to us in a new place. We felt like she was part of our family. She was always kind and ready to help. She will always be a warm, loving part of my memory.

We met the Heitmeyers in October 1968 having moved to Virginia for Jim to serve in the Army. We became members of the Annandale church of Christ where the Heitmeyers were members. We were invited to their home where we sampled Bettty's good home cooking many times. She was the most gracious, kind lady who always had time to listen to her friends! Betty was our forever friend 52 years and counting!!

From the family farmhouse at Shiloh Tenn. to finally the San Diego hills, Aunt Betty always brought along goodness to those she met and loved. We’re sorry it’s been so long since we were last together and we will miss her greatly. Barb (Heitmeyer) & Mike Loveless

I have known & have shared many wonderful moments with Betty for less than a year. She was indeed a wonderful, charming & a lovable person. Her aura manifests a good-natured person whom one would really love and appreciate.

Though my great moments with Betty was short-lived, it’ll forever be special & extraordinary for me.

I will surely miss you Betty..but, just for a while as we will meet again in God’s paradise sooner or later as God calls all His children back to heaven!

Betty, my most favorite client I ever had will remain in my heart, forever. She’s a very loving and caring person. One who is so compassionate of other people’s health concerns; of the less fortunates & the likes. I really admired her for how she had lived her Christian life. I am indeed so sad about her passing as I will never get to see her anymore, physically. On the other hand, I’m so happy as to where she is right now as I am so sure she’s now in God’s paradise enjoying the eternal life that our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ had promised us. At last, she is now free from all sorts of worries, sadness, pains and sorrows.

Betty, I will treasure all the memories that I have had with you throughout my lifetime. You are NOT just a client to me. You were like a mother, a family and a very dear friend to me.

I love you and I truly miss you. I will be seeing you in Heaven in God’s perfect time! ♥️♥️♥️

Betty was so special to all of us. She had a full and productive life. One of my all-time favorite people and one of the very best Christians I've ever known (I feel certain that is the sentiment of every person to ever know her). A beautiful soul. Years ago, she even was our personal escort into Arlington (just drove right in as if she owned the place!) where her husband was laid to rest.

Betty was such an example to all of us; such grace, kindness, gentleness. Seems she had added all the Christian traits up to and including love! Always so hospitable, having people in her home...for her own home cooking! No, we will never forget our beloved Betty.
