Her Life

Betty Mantis

September 17, 2012

Betty was born in Dayton, Ohio on Nov. 29th, 1925.  She graduated from Stivers High School and after graduation worked at NCR during the war working on the decoder for German Submarines.  As a result of this work it assisted in the ending of WWII.  She did  not know what she was working on until years later.

Betty met her future husband, Lou Mantis at Stivers.  Lou joined the Navy and Betty took a train to Chicago to marry Lou on May 25th, 1944.  They ended up living in San Diego for ___________ and when Lou was discharged from the Navy they returned to Dayton where their family lived.  Betty worked at Sears both in Dayton and California.

Betty and Lou had 3 children, Julie Kay who passed away at 3 months, Kelly born Aug. 9th, 1950 and Scott born on June 11, 1952.    They built and lived in their home in Dayton for over 50 years until retiring to Naples, Florida.  Over the years they would winter in either California where Kelly lives and Naples where Scott lives.

Betty suffered a stroke on Aug. 17th, 2011 and subsequently she and Lou moved into Terracina Grand (Assisted Living) in Naples, Florida.  Betty's passing was the result of another stroke and she spent her final days at Avow Hospice.
