Betty was a much beloved nurse, mom, and wife in Stafford Kansas. The SHS Class of 1969 sends our love and sympathies to the family. Betty's daughter Peggy is a classmate.   Linda Mayes Hiebert
Betty was born April 26th, 1930, in Sylvia, Kansas. Her parents were
William and Elizabeth Brown and she was the eldest of three children.

Betty died peacefully in the hospital on March 27th, 2024, after a beautiful
life almost 94 years in the making.

Raised in Sylvia, she graduated top of her high school class in 1947. During those years, she fell in love with Lee Volker. They married September 19, 1948, and enjoyed over fifty-seven years of marriage.

She raised their four children in Stafford, Kansas, and was very involved in their lives. While working full time in the doctor’s office as a nurse assistant, she sewed their clothes and attended every program and activity around Lee’s many hunting, fishing, and camping trips.

In 1976, Betty went to college. She graduated top of her class, and became
a registered nurse at forty-six years old. Betty loved being a nurse,
especially her years in the intermediate care nursery working with babies. Later, she did home care and inpatient hospital elder care. Her caring
nature made her a great nurse; she loved her patients and they loved her.

In addition to her meaningful career, she also enjoyed sewing, reading
and painting. Her family was so important to her, and she spent her elder
years enjoying time with her growing family.

In 2006, Betty moved to Austin, Texas to take care of her great grandson. She became a member of the Marshall Ford Fellowship church, made many
friends, and loved her church family.

She will be missed and remembered for her beautiful smile, sunny
disposition, integrity, and love for Jesus.

Preceded in death by her parents, siblings, grandson Ross Beaver,
granddaughter-in-law Carmen Burleson and, the love of her life, Lee
Volker.

Betty is survived by…
Her children: John and Evelyne Volker, Peggy and Randy Beaver, Janet and Rich Oliver and Penny and Rex Hawver.
Her grandchildren: Kerri Schelling, Jason and Jennifer Volker, Jody Burleson, Erin and Neal Balfour, Brooke and Will Dreiss and Travis and Kit Hawver.
