Her Life
January 31, 2018

Bettye Jean Patterson, daughter of Mae Julie Hughley, was born January 26, 1935, in Phenix City, Alabama.

Bettye was baptized at Franchise Missionary Baptist Church and was a 1953 graduate of South Girard High School. A resident of New York for 25 years, she earned her nursing degree, became a registered nurse, and worked at Creedmoor Hospital.

Bettye returned to the Phenix City area in the late 1980s and in 2002 she moved to Columbus, where she worked at several area hospitals, including the Bradley Center and West Central Georgia State Hospital.

Her answer of "yes" to sharing the good news of God's love and salvation was evident in the life she lived. She gave the Lord quality time in prayer and the study of His Word. With a cheerful heart, she supported numerous ministries and charities, spreading the gospel and caring for those in need. She delighted in every aspect of praise to our Lord, Christian broadcasts, the preaching of God's Word, and inspirational singing.

Cherished memories of her live on in her sister, Helen (Clyde) Potter of Phenix City; her brother, Julius (Gloria) Hughley of Columbus; nieces, Lorraine Potter of Phenix City, Vikki Anderson of San Antonio, and Saori Hughley of Japan; nephews, Stephen Hughley of Japan and John Anderson of San Antonio; grandnieces, Nicole Anderson, Noelle Anderson, Alyssa Hughley, Saya Hughley, and Sena Hughley; grandnephews, Chris Scott and Darius Anderson; great-grand nephew, Geordell Scott; and many loving friends.
