Her Life

At 11:00 p.m. on March 11, 1942 in Barbour County, AL, beautiful twins were born to Mr. Goodlow and Mrs. Clara Lee Ponders. The eldest twin’s name was Birdie.


Birdie’s Life, Legacy of Love and Devotion of which she has dispersed throughout four generations of her family.


At an early age, Birdie joined Shady Grove Baptist Church and continued here until she relocated to Crown Residential and Rehab in Montgomery, AL. While at Crown, she faithfully attended Daily and Sunday church services. Birdie was educated in the Barbour County School System. She earned many sewing certificates and later years attended Sparks State Technical College. In 1971, she was married to Richard Ledbetter, who preceded her in death. For over 20 years she was employed with Phillip Van Hueson in Clayton, AL, then briefly at Wayne Poultry until her illness.

 

And A Time To Die
For over 45 years, Mrs. Birdie P. Ledbetter imparted Love, Mentoring Wisdom, Faith, Strength and Finances to: her loved ones, some friends and even strangers. In 2001, her health began failing, yet she pressed on. After an extended period of illness, on March 16, 2015 in Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, AL, Birdie entered eternity. Her parents, husband, two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Smith and Mrs. Willie Dale Walker; two brothers-in-laws, Mr. William D. Rumph and Mr. Jester Smith; two nephews, Mr. Greggory G. Rumph and Mr. Joe Louis Rumph; one niece, Mary Ann Rodgers; two nephews-in-law, Mr. Acie Weldon and Mr. Charles Thomas; two great nieces, Jennetta Rumph and Kenyetta Thomas all preceded her in death.


A Time To Mourn
She leaves to cherish her memories, a very devoted sister, Mrs. Dora Rumph; seven nieces, Evangelist Evelyn Weldon, Mrs. Lisa McDuffie, Mrs. Katie Thomas, Mrs. Mary (Lonnie) White, Mrs. Josephine (James) Warren, Mrs. Susie Diggs, Mrs. Bobbie Williams; three nephews, Mr. William (Christy) Rumph III, Mr. Jester James Smith and Mr. William Rumph, Jr.; very special cousins, Mr. Larry Mathews, Mr. Johnny (Catherine), James Lee, Threse, thirty-four great-nieces and nephews, twenty great-great nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
