We don’t only grieve people. Sometimes we grieve the lives we imagined, the dreams that changed, and the versions of ourselves thought we’d become.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

I don\u2019t think I truly ever understood grief.
I always thought we grieved when someone passed on.
That was the only way I understood grief.
Until life taught me how many faces grief carries.
People.
Relationships.
Health.
Dreams.
Years.
Versions of ourselves.
The lives we thought we\u2019d live.
For me, the deeper I moved through healing, the more I realized I wasn\u2019t only grieving what had happened.
I was grieving the life I thought I\u2019d have.
I think most of us carry a picture.
A picture of how things are supposed to go.
The relationship we\u2019ll have.
The dreams we\u2019ll reach.
The person we\u2019ll become.
Mine looked very different from the life I found myself living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

For years, survival consumed everything.
Then came the years of fighting battles nobody else could see.
I believed that if I healed enough\u2026
Fixed enough\u2026
Overcome enough\u2026
I\u2019d finally arrive at the life I thought I was supposed to have.
The one I pictured in my mind.
But healing has a way of changing the questions.
At first, I kept asking:
\u201cWhy did this happen?\u201d
\u201cWhy couldn\u2019t my life look like everyone else\u2019s?\u201d
\u201cWhy am I suffering for something someone else did to me?\u201d
What I didn\u2019t realize was that I was grieving.
Not just the experiences.
Not just the version of me that was disappearing.
I was grieving all the years I believed I\u2019d lost.
The years I couldn\u2019t get back.
The ones I couldn\u2019t fully be present for.
The years spent surviving instead of living.
The future that hadn\u2019t arrived.
The life I thought I\u2019d have.
The version of me I thought I\u2019d be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nobody talks about that kind of grief<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is no funeral.
No memorial.
No cards that arrive in the mail.
But the grief is no less real.
And it comes with a deep burden of anger.
You begin to blame the life you didn\u2019t have on yourself.
You mourn possibilities.
Timelines.
People you never became.
And for a long time, I thought accepting reality meant giving up hope.
I was wrong.
Then I learned something I wish someone had told me years ago.
Acceptance wasn\u2019t surrender.
It was the moment I stopped fighting reality\u2026
and finally started living it.
The life I had built.
The one I was building.
The one that is still possible.
Today, my life still doesn\u2019t look the way I imagined.
But it\u2019s mine.
And for the first time\u2026
I\u2019m actually living it.
Some dreams may have disappeared.
Some may have changed shape.
But some are still unfolding.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something unexpected happened.
When I stopped comparing my reality to the picture I\u2019d carried in my head.
And when I stopped being angry at myself for surviving the only way I knew how.
When I forgave myself for the pain survival caused.
And when I realized those behaviors had once protected me\u2026
They simply didn\u2019t know it was time to let go.
I didn\u2019t just find compassion.
I found respect.
Trust.
Grace.
And eventually\u2026
Love.
For the woman who had fought so hard to stay alive.
Only then did I begin to notice what had been there all along.
The people who stayed.
The moments of joy that somehow survived alongside the pain.
The lessons I never would have chosen\u2026
but somehow carried forward anyhow.
And most of all\u2026
The woman I became because of it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
