After someone we love dies, it can be difficult to imagine that our own future could ever feel meaningful again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grief can make the world feel smaller. The things that once felt ordinary may suddenly feel overwhelming. A song, a familiar scent, a photograph, or an ordinary Tuesday can bring a wave of sadness that seems to come from nowhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then, sometimes, something unexpected happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Does Grief Come in Waves?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Grief isn\u2019t one emotion. It can bring sadness, anger, guilt, loneliness, longing, love, and even moments of joy as your mind and heart adjust to a life that has changed. One reason grief comes in waves is that we move between confronting the loss and returning to everyday life. A memory may bring the loss sharply into focus, while work, conversations, routines, and ordinary moments give us space to breathe.
