Her Life

Bobbe's Story

June 16, 2020
Her journey began on December 26th, 1952 in Horton, Kansas (she always hated that her birthday was the day after Christmas, so my father and I always made sure to make a big deal; separate presents and cake). Bobbe was an only child and some of you know that she was born Barbara Jo after her parents – Robert (Bob) and Mary Josephine (Jo). Having been called Bobbe all her life, she had it legally changed many years later.

Bobbe grew up in Hiawatha KS; a farming town where her father owned an Allis Chalmers dealership. Bobbe grew up a tomboy, playing flag football and softball (imagine her shock when her only child was not interested in these sports; don’t worry we found similar interests down the road – shopping and that’s a whole other story). Bobbe attended Hiawatha High where she participated in Band and Twirling and graduated in 1970.

In 1971 she met Don (also of Hiawatha KS) who quickly became the love of her life and they were together just shy of 49 years – Married September 3rd, 1971. The young couple’s start took them to different parts of Kansas and Missouri. Bobbe worked as an administrator in Hospitals in St. Joseph & Kansas City then took on sales job with Manpower and the Local Antioch News Paper.

In 1975 their only child was born, Jacki Dale, and brought an abundance of joy to their life (well that is my version). With Bobbe being an only child and me being an only child, we were more often like sisters and best friends.

1986 began a new chapter of her life in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Don took a job with Saudi Arabian airlines that lasted 10 years. During these years Bobbe was able to travel to Seoul Korea (think power shopping), Greece, Thailand, Singapore, Egypt, England, and various cities within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Discovering the joys on not having to shovel snow and having a love for the sun, they built a house and moved to Chandler AZ in 1989.

Back in the States Bobbe took on various employment opportunities, all around her expertise…Sales. She loved talking with people and always had a way of never meeting a stranger. Bobbe loved traveling and shopping (lots of shopping) but always had a passion for photography and technology. In 2004 she started her own business Media Created for You. She filmed various events and receptions and was able to help people create timeless memories for their special moments. In 2014 she retired but always kept up on the latest tech gadgets.

In 2018 Bobbe was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Grade 4 (terminal brain cancer). She remained extremely positive during her 19-month fight. Bobbe shared almost daily her thoughts and feelings with her Facebook family and reconnected with her faith in which she found comfort. She also found a way to give back by becoming a certified member of The Alliance of Therapy Dog network.

On June 12th, 2020 after one hell of a fight, Bobbe took her last breath with her husband, Don, by her side. She leaves behind her husband, daughter, aunt, and many wonderful friendships that she built over her last 67 years.
