I met Bobbe 62 years ago, when my family moved to Hiawatha. We were very close until high school. Bobbe was a year ahead of me in school due to birthdays, hers in December & mine in January. Sometimes I went on her family vacations cause she didn't want to go as an only child. Bob & Jo were like extended family in those days.
I remember when she decided that she needed to get baptized so she went to the First Christian Church up the street from our houses and requested that the minister baptize her. Which he did. She didn't tell her parents until it was done. Though Bobbe didn't attend many church gatherings, I know that she knew Jesus as her Lord & Savior.
Not sure how old we were, neither of us had a license. But one day, while Jo was golfing and Bob was working, we took the white Cadillac out for a spin. North of town we took out a stop sign, got back on the road only to top the next hill I find her dad & Uncle Jim in a field with a farmer. We hurried home, not to do that again.
We learned how to make Chocolate Chip cookies at an early age. I still make them the same way. Bob always wanted a lot of chips per cookie, so we used 2 pkgs of chips per batch.
One of the big highlights of youth was when her Aunt (Caka) Carol came to town driving a Periwinkle Blue sports car. We thought that was something fantastic!
Our lives took us in different directions but we always managed to keep in touch. I miss you my dear friend.
Peace & comfort to Jacki & Don.
