You Mattered To Me
© Ruth Morris
You lived your life thinking that no one cared.
You thought you were all alone, your heart feeling tattered.
I am here to tell you that you were wrong
'Cause you see - Mom - to me you mattered.
I loved you when you were angry and mean.
I loved you when you were kind as could be.
I loved you not just because I had to.
I loved you because you mattered to me.
It hurts to know that now you're gone
And never will your face again I see.
I hurt not because I am supposed to;
I hurt because you mattered to me.
I have to live on each day without you.
It doesn't get easier as it is supposed to be.
I feel the loss of you to my very soul
Because you see - Mom - you mattered to me.
Your touch, your smile, your funny wit.
The times it was just you and me.
I will miss you, Mom, with all my heart
'Cause you still matter to me...

Who is Bobbie?

June 22, 2019

I could tell you stories about how Bobbie and I met or the things we did but that would only tell you who Bobbie was with me. I knew Bobbie 26 years and we talked about everything and I mean everything. I could tell you things about her childhood, her adult life, the things that made her become who she was and why she did some of the things she did, the choices she made, from her perspective, but that's not what this is about. I was so heartbroken when she passed it took me a long time to come to terms with it enough to write this. I may eventually tell you stories about things that happened between her and I but right now I want to stick to facts about her and what she liked.

My nickname for Bobbie is Daisy. The first time I called her that she laughed and said it was perfect because it is her favorite flower.

Bobbie's favorite color is green

She is a dog person. German Shepherds in particular and she knew all kinds of facts about them. I never saw her own one, she said that was in her past and she just didn't have room for a big dog like that anymore, but she did own little dogs since I met her. There was Taz that she took on her truck during her truck driving days. I think he was a long haired Chihuahua. There were a couple in between such as Fancy a Chihuahua she inherited, and her last dog Harley a little shih tzu.

Her favorite food is Pork Chop Sandwiches. Bobbie loved a lot of foods but that was her favorite. She said she made the best one around. (I never tried it) When it came to food she took it very seriously and was set in her ways. She didn't believe in making gravy out of sausage. It had to be made with bacon grease. Her secret to great chicken and dumplings which I can tell you now, she attributed to the fact she added in yellow food coloring. She said it made it look creamy. She also said it was the only way her son Jack would eat it. If it was made without the yellow color he wouldn't touch it.

In all the years I knew her she always kept her hair above her shoulders and quite often went very short. I've seen her with blonde, red, or gray hair. In our time she was mostly a red head.

Bobbie loved to watch TV. Her all time favorite show is Grey's Anatomy. She loved a lot of shows over the years but more recently she loved Bones, The Good Doctor, The Resident, and all the Chicago shows. She also had some favorite reality shows such as The Voice, Americas Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars, Little People, and many more to numerous to mention.

Bobbies favorite actor is Dwayne Johnson, The Rock. I don't recall a favorite actress.

Her favorite movie is anything that was a Beauty and the Beast movie.

Her favorite book author is Nora Roberts. She listened to a lot of books on CD while driving the big rig down those long highways which also included other authors such as Danielle Steel and Tammy Hoag.

She liked a lot of different music styles such as country and bluegrass. I was told she even played guitar but I was never gifted with hearing her. She said her son James reminded her of one of the country stars. If I remember correctly it is Kenny Chesney.

She loves Black Hills Gold jewelry. At one time I remember she had matching black hills gold watches for her and her husband Randy. She also had a cross necklace she wore all the time. I think she said her mother gave it to her.

One of the things she did in her life that was one of her favorites was when she took a cruise with her husband Randy and I think she said it was also with her friend Donna and her husband. She wanted to take another cruise. We talked all the time about where to go on that new cruise.

One of Bobbies other favorite times in her life was when she coached cheerleading. She said her daughter Patricia was really good and she was proud of her.

If people really got to know her then they knew she could be quite witty and at times quite logical. From where she grew up she had such fantastic sayings or ways of wording things that not everyone out west could understand. She could make you laugh when you least expected it or you needed it the most.

She liked children a lot. Watching them play or hearing the little ones laugh brought her joy.

Bobbie spoke many times about how she hoped all her children and grandchildren knew how much she loved them. She really missed the grandchildren she didn't get to see anymore. She loved the conversations she had with Montana and was so happy they kept in touch. She said Montana was a lot like her.

Bobbie is a true believer in God and heaven. One of her favorite songs is Spirit In The Sky by Norman Greenbaum. She said when she passed she wanted the song to be played. I'm unable to post it here but you can find it on youtube.

Separated by miles but never far from the heart

January 16, 2019

Time, miles, and life separated us often but history always kept us connected. Bobbie will be forever in my memories and our last conversations always on my heart.  Rest in peace, friend and sister...may you and Randy be forever together, hand-in-hand as angels watching over those you loved.

Big sister

January 13, 2019

I remember we were all pretty mischievous growing up and our parents sure had their hands full. 3 daughters within 5 years of each other. I particularly remember Bobbie and Patty making up their beds with pillows and their teddy bears in them and waiting until everyone was asleep,(or so they thought) and climbing out their bedroom window and over the fence, in order to go out and have fun. Bobbie was around 15, Patty was 13 and I was still only 10, so I was not invited to go. Before leaving the house that night they must have unlocked the front door in order to get back in later. Dad got up in the middle of the night and must have realized that Bobbie and Patty were not in bed and when they were sneaking back in the house later that night, Dad was waiting on them. The girls told dad that they had heard a siren (either an ambulance or fire truck) and was outside to find out what was going on. Needless to say our dad did NOT believe this. This is just one of the escapades that the girls got in to.They could tell a story that I almost believed them too, if I did not already know the truth.
