John Robert “Bobby” Watkins, 78, a lifetime resident of Granville County passed away Wednesday, October 17th 2012 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC.

A native of Granville County, the son of the late Richard Charles Watkins Jr. and Verlon Dean Watkins. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of Delrayno Baptist Church and a retired circuit rider for Monk Austin Tobacco Company. After retirement he was instrumental in helping his son Richard with the development of Jordan Creek Estates. He was an avid NC State fan and a loving Papa to his four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, October 19th 2012 in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Rev. D.L. Page and Rev. Cam Ford. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-five years, Patricia “Pat” Harris Watkins of the home. A daughter, Katrina Watkins Cantees of Greensboro , a son Richard Earl Watkins of Oxford, his sister, Sarah Watkins Crews of Oxford, two granddaughters, Meredith  Lee Watkins, Karson Nicole Cantees, two grandsons, Garrett Harris Watkins and William Howard Cantees.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00PM, Friday, October 19th, 2012 at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford, North Carolina. 

Omission of flowers is requested and memorials may be made to Delrayno Baptist Church, 1315 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.

Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford is assisting the Watkins family.

I am so sorry to hear about Bobby. He was a real good friend. We had some good times in the old days,playing softball.My prayers go out to Pat and his children.
