This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Bob Perri, born on November 23, 1937. He passed away peacefully at home with his family on May 10, 2021 at age 83 (1000 moons). He was the light of our lives and we miss him dearly.
Bob was the youngest of five Perri sons and the last of the brother's to pass away. His beloved mother Maria and father Nicola and their oldest son Vince immigrated from a small village in Calabria, Italy to Ellis Island NY in 1928. They first settled in Wisconsin, where Bob was born and later made their way across the country to California. Bob had a great admiration for his parents and his four older brothers, Vince, Ralph, Frank, and Ben. The Perri family immigrating to the U.S. is a remarkable legacy. Later in their adult life, the Perri brothers would have reunions together and they especially enjoyed reminiscing about their childhood days.
In 1960, Bob earned a BS degree in engineering and business management from San Jose State University. He began a successful career as an aerospace engineer at LMSC/Lockheed Martin. During some of his years at Lockheed, he provided industry-related college courses to students at San Jose State University and Santa Clara University. He was often a guest speaker at IBM conferences to provide information on the first CAD/CAM program that began at Lockheed. In 1994, after 34 successful and rewarding years, he retired from Lockheed as Division Director for Media Services. Bob was well respected and admired by his co-workers and friends. Privately, he was an investment adviser, and income tax preparer for family and friends.
Bob and Ann first met at Lockheed in 1962. As a joke, a co-worker of Ann's who knew she wanted to meet Bob, put a note in Bob’s wrecked, red MG convertible with Ann’s phone number to call for "car repair"! The next day at work, Bob introduced himself to Ann, and they laughed about the note, and later he asked her out on a date. They had an instant attraction to each other, and realized they were very compatible, and fell in love. They dated for a year and were married in August 1963. It was a very happy marriage and family life with their two children (Gina & John), and later with their spouses (Jason & Myra) and three beautiful grandchildren (Emilia, Claudia, & Marcus). This year would have been Bob & Ann's 58th wedding anniversary.
Bob was very kind with an easy going nature. He was a good listener and an excellent teacher. He was always constructive and efficient with his time, and could balance between work and relaxation, and especially to spend time with his family. For many years, Bob was the team coach for both Gina and John's various sports, and also the commissioner for MV/LA, CYSA boys soccer teams. Bob was an avid reader and knowledgeable about many subjects such as conservation, science, history, and economics. He played Sudoku daily to keep his mind sharp and he taught himself how to do magic tricks and became quite good at it.
Bob was passionate about gardening and spent time in his garden every day.
He generously shared his homegrown vegetables and fruit with family and friends. He would plant anything Ann asked him to grow for cooking. He was the ‘farmer’, and she was the ‘cook’. Bob enjoyed good wholesome food, and would always compliment Ann for cooking the vegetables grown in his garden. Bob became very skilled at baking, and every week he made artisan sourdough bread and granola. He also baked delicious Italian Biscotti (like his Mom’s) and traditional Panettone bread for Christmas.
Bob was a naturalist at heart and loved spending time in the great outdoors.
He took the family to many different places with natural and scenic interest.
One of his greatest joys was being at the Tahoe cabin with family and friends and spending time at the lake. In the summer, he enjoyed long walks in the nearby meadow and hiking in Desolation Wilderness. During the winter months it was skiing, snowshoeing, and playing in the snow with the kids. Another favorite activity of Bob’s was kayaking and he shared this passion of his with many friends and family. After early retirement, Bob went on annual backpacking trips with his childhood friend, Larry who retired the same time as Bob. They hiked and camped at some of the most beautiful national parks in the country and continued this tradition into their late 70's.
Bob was a lifetime supporter of many local environmental and conservation programs. He was a longtime volunteer on a number of different assignments for the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST). Most notably, he was a docent for 20+ years at Ano Nuevo State Park on the San Mateo coast. He enjoyed being at the ocean and giving informative walking tours about the elephant seals.
Bob felt very blessed to have a loving family and he was grateful for a wonderful life. He was a devoted husband, dad, and papa who dearly loved his family, and his family adored him. His love, wisdom, and light-heartedness will be greatly missed.
Thank you to all our friends and family for their loving support, and for all the heartfelt cards and words of sympathy for our loss.
