Bob lived around the corner from me in Burke Street Oatley
I first met him in the 60's as a mate lived next door. He politely asked
what footy we played and said soccer. He said "that's great, if you ever want to try Aussie Rules let me know". In 1972 I joined Pensurst and was coached by Keith Orr and we were premiers in u/17s
Bob was so happy that I had "seen the light"
A wonderful man from a great family

My apologies for not being able to attend todays game and pay my respects to Bob Sterling. I am travelling to Melbourne as the physiotherapist with the RAMS team to play Victoria Country.

I have known Bob all my life and he has been a great long-time mate to my father Bill. He holds a special place in our family for a number of reasons, Bob was highly regarded as a great player, a gentleman, and as a kind and selfless person who gave so much to others and especially those involved in St George AFL, Bankstown Cricket and Penshurst Junior AFL.

Bob is also personally remembered for doing numerous plumbing jobs around our family home, notably the outside toilet which is well known as "Bob's Toilet".

Bob like many others has put so much into St George AFC to make it such a great club. It is also great to see that Bob is being remembered for his fantastic contribution to St George AFC and great to see his memory go on, not just for our family toilet (which by the way, after all these years and despite all our efforts is still working extremely well!).

My condolences to Bob's family, we are all better off for having Bob in our lives!

Vale Bob Sterling

Bobby, you were regularly around the club helping out wherever possible. However, you always had time to have a chat and a good laugh. I will miss our chats and your cheerful nature.

I only played a few years with saints, but I was coached by Bob's father at Penshurst and saw Bob play for the mighty saints...he played in the most crucial position on the field....centre half back!!!! I attended the 40th anniversary of my one and only premiership last year at Olds Park and spoke to Bob ,(in between him cleaning and sorting things out!!) a tireless worker who was driven by his love for the game and the team. People with that sort of dedication and humility are rare indeed! Now he is playing in heaven and feeding Jesus at full forward because God new who was the best player for the chb position! Vale Bob was great to have known you!

I was genuinely shocked and saddened on hearing of Bob's passing away. Bob remained one of my closest friends from my time at St. George footy club and was truly one of natures gentlemen both on and off the field.
Champion footballer and man rests easily on Bob's epitaph.
It is hard to understand how such a genuine and clean living person could be taken from us at such a young age.
Our thoughts are with all Bob's family with a special thought to sister Marion.
Take a well earned rest Bob, will remember you always.

Football clubs are comprised of players, supporters, committee and back up staff and need each to survive - Bob was all four.
Bob played all his football at St George coming through the Juniors into the Senior Club before being forced into premature retirement due to injury. His playing record was so good he is listed amongst the Greats of our club. It is as a man, proud of his family, friendly, courteous, humble in relation to his achievements, a team mate and all round good bloke that we will remember him. Our sincere condolences go to Marcia and his family. Bob - the final whistle has been blown - rest in peace. Geoff and Eileen Green

Bob was one of nature's true gentlemen and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. I was fortunate to meet Bob and his family as a junior player at Penshurst and then as a young player at the Dragons. On behalf of my Mother Mavis and Sister Karen we offer our condolences to the Sterling family. Rest in Peace Bob,

Bob Sterling.
A true legend of the St George AFL Football Club. Our association with this man was a man who listened to your comments about football and gave you great history of the football club as only Bob could do.

The whole football club will miss this man from the under 19's, ressies and first grade player.

He was great friend to all.

RIP Bob
You will be miss from the Ford family

Bob was a true legend of the St. George football club. No job was too big or small for Bob and he always had time to have a chat and share a story, no matter who you were. The Dragons will never be the same without Bobby.

You will be missed

To Dear Bob Sterling,

You have had such a great impact on my families time at St George Football Club. Your generosity and presence will be forever missed. It can never be expressed in words the amount of time, effort and love you have put into the St George AFC. Long after I finish wearing the Red and White you will remain in my memory.

Lots of love,

A great man who always had the time to have a chat and ask how you are going. Bob was a fantastic member of the St George footy club in my time as a volunteer doing anything and everything to help the boys run out each week to have a kick.

Miss you mate

I dealt with Bob Sterling only in a business manner, as a supplier to the St George football club. The news of his passing has left me shocked and saddened this morning. Bob was an absolute gentleman and always had a smile when he visited mt store. I will miss him a great deal.

As Bob McConnell was to my generation, Bobby Sterling has been to the current crop of Dragons. An old styled gentlemen, who gave far more than he received. Football clubs don't survive without selfless people like Bob, example to us all. May the football Gods welcome him with open arms, the skies are blue, the grass lush & as Bob breaks from the centre, every pass is lace out to a grateful forward. RIP Bob. A life well lived.

I recall meeting Bobby the very first time I attended a Dragon's game. He offered his hand in friendship, said hello and asked how I was ... I can't recall attending a game since, when that didn't happen ... it will be different, but I'm certain he will be there at every game for eternity, in spirit.

Bob was a truly special person whose passion and commitment for the club was second to none. Such a legend to have around and such an inspiration to so many. He has left his mark on the St.George football world and will be forever remembered as one of the greats on and off the field.

I am absolutely devastated at his passing and will miss him greatly.
