Bonnie Willis, 73, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away in her home on Tuesday, Dec 1, 2015.
She was born on December 22,1941, in Madison, Wisconsin to Ruth and Harold Estervig.
Before settling in Punta Gorda in 1998, Bonnie and her husband Basil Willis, Jr., spent 10 years living aboard their 54’ sailboat and traveling the world. Bonnie enjoyed living in Punta Gorda and loved hosting friends and family from the North for much of the winter.
Bonnie was generous, funny, fiercely independent and lived a full, amazing life. She went skydiving on her 70th birthday and waited to tell most of the family because she knew they would freak out. Bonnie was a passionate progressive and was active with local Democratic, Humanist and cancer survivor and support groups. She was also a huge Green Bay Packer fan and proud co-owner.
Bonnie will be greatly missed by sons Basil (BethMarie) Willis III, and Jeffrey (JoRita) Willis, twin sister Donna (Bruce) Dietrich, brother Ronald (Ginny) Estervig, along with many extended family and close friends, all over the world.
A memorial celebration will be held at her home on Thursday, Dec 10 at 3 p.m. for Florida friends, and another in Madison on Dec 22 for Wisconsin family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bonnie’s name to the Make-a-Wish foundation or the National Association for the Deaf.
