Interview with Kraz 30 Dicembre 2003 Blog Admin Commenti chiusi

KRAZ
By Ciobin

CIOBIN: A little history of Kraz
KRAZ: Kraz has been in the game for a minute. Producer for 15 years, DJ for 17 years, MC for 18 years, stopped breaking & tagging a long time ago, ha ha. Did my bid ripping apart freestyle sets in the Bay, I?m originally from Oakland, CA. After seeing a lot of friends get deals and get screwed, I took 5 years off to go to college and study the music business. In ?98 I jumped back in the game with an independent label, opened a recording studio, and started crankin? out the CDs. In 2000 I moved to Vegas started a new label, hooked up with a new studio, and started pumpin? out more CDs.

C: This is your first cd?
K: No. This is my second solo album. The Spin Sum Tyme EP, and Prime Tyme Compilation were released in ?98. Then there was Rezident Playaz with Kiszmiaz in 2000. And Khaosz, a limited solo release in 2001. And even after Urban Legynd came out in mid-2003 I?ve released a series of mixtapes just to keep the streets buzzing. We?re currently on volume 4 of the Dangerous Muzick Mixtapes.

C: Tell me something about hip-hop in your city.
K: It?s growing. There?s a lot of Hip-Hop talent bubbling under in Vegas. It?s time for somebody to just boil over and put Vegas on the map. And that?s what Underwyrld and SmotherPhucka are here to do.

C: Do you know something about hip-hop in Italy?
K: Not much, but Hip-Hop is so universal it?s pretty much the same everywhere. I am looking to find out more about Italian Hip-Hop though. Who?s big in Italy right now?

C: What do you think about mp3?
K: MP3s? I think are one of the greatest musical innovations of the 21st century. The advent of MP3s makes the world feel so much smaller. Hell, thanx to MP3s I?m being interviewed in an Italian Hip-Hop ?zine, I get fan-mail from Amsterdam, Korea, Sweden, Australia, Canada. None of that would be possible if it wasn?t for the internet and MP3s. Used correctly it?s a great promotional tool.

C: And about women in hip-hop?
K: Love to see women getting? their Hip-Hop on. From the DJs such as La La, Pam The Funkstress, Farah? to the MCs like Free (106 & Park), Missy, Bahamadia? to the nameless video chicks that just provide the eye candy. I?d like to see more women come to the forefront in Hip-Hop though, just adds an extra dimension to the whole thing.

C: Have you performed live?
K: Fa sho, numerous times. I?ve been doing shows both as a group and solo artist for years. I?ve performed as the opening act as well as the headliner. I?ve played in small clubs and big arenas. I?ve put in work.

C: Who is the artist you like most and why?
K: All around artists, I?d have to say Busta, Murray, and Redman. They keep it real fa real. They get their clown on and have fun with the music like it?s meant to be. They ain?t always screamin? on how much money they got or how many bodies they dropped, they can switch up topics and still show mad skillz.

C: Do you think that hip-hop videos represent the real hip-hop?
K: Actually, quite a few of them. But videos aren?t supposed to always rep the real. Videos are supposed to be entertainment, that?s what a lot of people forget. They?re made to glamorize the Hip-Hop life not reflect it. Also, a big part of Hip-Hop life is partying and having fun.

C: In which way you live hip-hop?
K: I?m not a ?poser? or a ?wanksta.? I just live it like I spit it.

C: Tell me something about clubs and radios in your city.
K: The clubs? Krazy. You can pretty much find a club 7 days a week out here, must of ?em stay crackin? ?til the sun comes up. Radio? Nothin? special. You got the typical spin-the-same-songs-every-30-minutes thing going on. WYLD 102 does switch it up and throw some old school Hip-Hop in the mix.

C: Future projects
K: Well, I?m in the process of signing a production deal with SmotherPhucka Records and we?re partnering up to put some more fire on the street. So look out for Double Phatinum from Phatman, Grown Asz Man from KC(yeah, that?s me), another KrAz album, and several more Underwyrld/SmotherPhucka mixtapes and compilations coming in the next few months. Also look for a TV show & DVD I?m producing in conjunction with SmothePhucka Records. I?ve also just signed a management deal with KAAM`SAE ENTERTAINMENT GROUP. So look for a lot of big things from me in 2003 and 2004.

C: Thanks and hello to
K: Shouts out to Phatman and the SmotherPhucka family, Arpeggio Studios, Queja and the FAMMLI, Lil K, Kaam?Sae, all my fans out there, and U for hooking me up with this interview.

A letter to my son

April 5, 2014

I always used to say that things happen for a reason. I can no longer say that because I just don’t understand.
You were my first born child, my only son and now you’re gone. I love my girls dearly, but the bond between mother and son is different. In our single parent home you were the backbone, my man of the house. You made sure your sisters were taken care of when I worked and you kept me out of trouble with your calming effect
Now you are the first thing I think about when I open my eyes in the morning and the last thing I think about before I go to sleep. ..I miss you terribly...
Life has forever changed. Does the pain ever go away; does it ever get any easier?

For now it’s one foot in front of the other because I know that’s what you would want me to do

Love you baby boy
