Brandon Taliaferro Lewis was born March 26, 1991 in Birmingham, Alabama, to Booker T. and Evelyn W. Lewis. Confessing Christ at an early age, uniting with Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, Brandon was baptized under the pastorship of Rev. A. W. Bry.

Brandon attended Ephesus Academy from pre-school to 1st grade, where he learned to share, socialize, and respect others. He later started Sun Valley Elementary School and was very active in baseball, basketball, and soccer at the local Northeast YMCA. While keeping busy with extracurricular activities, Brandon remained at the top of his class winning 1st place in math derbies and spelling bees. He also served in the youth choir, on the step team, as a junior deacon, acted in various plays, and regularly attended vacation bible school at Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church. During the summer months, Brandon attended Sardis Baptist Church summer camp along with his younger sister, Misty.

He continued his love for sports and academic excellence at Martha Gaskins Middle School, where he played football, soccer, and remained an honor roll student. As the family transitioned to Faith Chapel, Brandon remained active in student ministries. He also found a new passion of learning to play the guitar.

He was an active member of the Distinguished Gentlemen’s Club at Ramsay High School. Brandon also enjoyed dance, choir, and band classes. Brandon continued to play soccer his entire high school years. He graduated in 2009.

As Brandon transitioned to Jacksonville State University, he was selected for the elite Freshman Forum. He studied Exercise Science and Wellness and remained in good academic standing for three years.

He moved back to Birmingham and worked as an assistant manager at Dollar General. Brandon also worked as an inventory specialist through Marathon Staffing. He later moved to Texas and worked at an AT&T call center.

Brandon recently returned home to celebrate the life of his grandmother. He remained here until his earthly departure on June 10, 2019. Brandon was set to begin welding and electrician training at AWTC Construction Trades Training on the day of his passing.

He enjoyed listening to hip-hop and old school music. Brandon loved watching Alabama football. His favorite colors were red and black. He loved God and was devoted to his family. Brandon never met a stranger, and touched many lives, young and old.

He leaves to cherish his memories: parents, Booker T. and Evelyn Lewis; two sisters, Sinarata (“Winky”) and Misty Lewis; one step sister, Sheree Lewis Abdullah; three children, Jacob Lamar Lewis , Brinley Taylor Lewis, and Brandon Taliaferro Lewis Jr; three uncles, Burl Johnson, Thomas (Doris) Wilson, and Richard (Elizabeth) Lewis Jr; seven aunts: Sarah (Robert, deceased) Kelly,Jane Wilson, BJ Wilson, Vivian (Elijah), Betty (Irby, deceased) Tyus, Jacqueline Thomas, Johnnie Mae (Nathaniel, deceased) Hinton. He also leaves behind thirty-three cousins, Kimball Black, Walter A. Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Takisha Bennett, Arthur Johnson Jr., Sharon Johnson-Matthews, Michelle Johnson, Michael Johnson, DeAndre Cobbins, Billy Green, Roberta Kelly-Walker, Renita Kelly, Robert Kelly Jr., Renaldo Kelly, Cory Howard, Erwin Howard, Rodrick Howard, Floreshia Howard, Scharvin Wilson, Damion Patterson, Ashley Davis, Irvenia Roosely, Belinda Smallwood, Richard (“Dicky”) Lewis III, Coretta Robinson, Brittany Lewis, Johnathan Lewis, Brandon Snyder, Thomas Roosely Jr., Jeremy Roosely, Charles Austin Smallwood, Luke Robinson, and Alannah Davis. Additionally he leaves childhood friends, Brent Nash William Davis; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Brandon was preceded in death by sister, Matrice Laverne Jemison.
