Brian Michael Born, a long time resident of the Skagit Valley, passed away in Sedro Wooley on Sunday, May 1st, 2016. He was born in Seattle on May 30th, 1945 to William Born and Emily Erwin. He grew up in Alderwood Manor, but later moved to West Seattle, graduating from WSHS with the class of 1963. In the late 1970s, he went in on a piece of land in Rockport, WA with a group of like-minded folks where he built a cabin from lumber milled from trees on the property. He had many different jobs, including postal service worker, taxi cab driver, bus driver and class aide for Concrete Schools, and spent 18 years working various positions for Seattle City Light including one at the hydroelectric dam, as the Diablo groundskeeper, and finally as a Water Quality Specialist.
In 1982, Brian became father to his daughter, Meredith Josephine Salget. He was the proudest father you'd ever meet. He lived in the cabin he built in the woods for 27 years, later moving to Sedro Woolley. He enjoyed hiking and communing with nature. He loved the solitude and peace he found in the forest and visiting the Skagit River. He took pleasure in researching the genealogy of his descendants and bringing the family together for potlucks and birthdays. He is survived by his only daughter (Meredith), his sisters Phyllis Knowles, Bonnie Born Ash, and Patricia Born, his brothers Joel Erwin and Doug Erwin and various nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents.
We will celebrate his life with a potluck on his birthday, Monday, May 30th, 2016 (Memorial Day) at 2pm at Riverfront Park in Sedro Woolley, where Brian organized past family get togethers.
