Egbon mi,we prayed earnestly that God should leave you with us, we had so much confidence that our prayers were answered so much so that we were thinking of your thanksgiving service, for the victory over the sickness that held a Brigadier General on his sick bed for days. You fought in different war zones countries and territories and came back, but alas! You surrendered to the cold hands of death in just few weeks of sickness. Little did we know that God said you were too good to be left here on earth that he needed you to be with him. We take solace in the comfort of the scriptures that says WE WILL MEET AGAIN. Sleep on egbon mi till we meet to part no more. Your beloved wife, children, brothers, sisters, friends and well wishers will certainly miss you

It's shocking and heart breaking to hear of your departure to the great beyond. You never showed any sign of sickness on the 13th of August 2021 when you called me and we spoke for 14 minutes 08 seconds. In fact, u had to call 3 times due network issues. A gallant officer and very friendly one indeed you were right from 1986 in Academy. May the Good Lord comfort your family and friends including the members of AFN and your troops in OPWS. Sleep on brother. I will surely missed your beautiful soul.

With a heavy heart. So sad I am doing this. Writing this tribute is so heavy. But I want this to be the memory I have of you.
Back in the days... 1994/1995 we shared beautiful memories in Kaduna. Dalet barracks to be precise. You kept the the distance of your friend Ben in far away Liberia so close. You shared the beautiful experience of your passing out from the amphibious training in Jaji as a paratrooper when you finished as an Air borne trainee with me. You dragged me along to witness the passing out. Seeing you jump from the air is one lasting memory as long as that was, I will keep for ever.
You encouraged me to stay strong in the relationship telling me Ben will come. Even when I don't seem to understand how loving a military man could be so emotional draining.
Oga Apere... You are sorely missed.
I wished I had told you I appreciate you while you were here.
May the good Lord comfort your immediate family and loved ones.
Rest on sir.

Be at rest, sleep in the Lord, until we meet to part no more!

When your wife and children call on you, make sure you look back and take care of their prayers.

You will be missed but will be remembered forever!

Sir, this is one particular death that I've asked God, why? Regardless of His Omnipotent, Omniscient & Omnipresent status!!! Papa God, why why why now? God, where is your bounty of mercy? I asked God several questions without pretences but in this my painful solitary moment, the only assurance I receive fm God is that *IT IS WELL WITH YOUR SOUL* Truly, God knows best!
My years together with you 've spanned over 3 decades & it's quite needless for me to travel that memory lane. However, I can't easily forget my last moment with you on 8 August 2021 when you came to visit me & my family. As we shared drinks to reminiscent over life, career, family & what providence has in stock for us; Madam brought her delicacies but I received an important call, wherefore I left everything behind, saluted you & went for the call From Above!!!
You spent time with my family & lavished them with gifts. As I returned late in the night we spoke! Sir, your last visit was truly a blessing & profound farewell as you left my house with the best of every good gift that you came with.
Gen Dayo Apere, you were an all round excellent man. A very humane gentleman officer with exceptional courage & candour! I am deeply pained that you left us in a stealth & no one saw it coming! I don't know how Sarah & the children will handle this unceremonious void you ve left behind! My prayers & every support will remain with them! Rest on Sir until we meet you with the Commander of the Host in Heaven!!!

Clement! It is hard to believe that you are gone so soon. I remember you during our YOC in Jaji 1993 you and Late Oguntimilehin having just returned from a UN mission in Yugoslavia we used to call you 'aka Samboha' remember? Then we parted ways and met yet again in Freetown 1998, I left you there and handed over my room and mattress in Morray Town to you. Years later in 2007 we met yet again in Ojo cantonment when you were CO and you hosted me for tombola and accommodated me in your guest house for the night then we had breakfast in your house next morning where I had the privilege of meeting your family for the first time. Our parts crossed again in 2014 when I visited Ibadan and met you during your Strategic Masters Course in UI. That was the last time I saw you. These are fond memories that will remain indelible in my heart.
My joy is that your later days were well spent in the vine yard of the lord of cause the reason they call you 'Omo Pastor'. Adieu my friend and coursemate I know you are in a better place now rest well.

It has been difficult for us to understand and painful for us to accept that you are no more. The only thing that has kept us standing is our knowledge of God as being sovereign and unquestionable. We thank God for even the short time He gave you on this side of the living, we thank Him for the beautiful family He blessed you with, for the giant strides He enabled you to make in this life, for the heights He lifted you to, for the joy you brought to many lives, and for the impact He allowed you to make in your military career, before this final call. We submit to God. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace, and may the Lord God watch over and keep your wife and children and your entire family, in Jesus name.

If tomorrow starts without me, and I’m not here to see,
If the sun should rise you find your eyes all filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry the way you did today,
While thinking of the many things we didn’t get to say.
I know how much you love me, as much as I love you
And each time that you think of me, I know you’ll miss me too.
But when tomorrow starts without me please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand.
He said my place was ready, in heaven far above
And that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But as I turned and walked away a tear fell from my eye.
For all my life I’d always thought, I didn’t want to die.
I had so much to live for, so much left yet to do.
It seemed almost impossible that I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays the good ones and the bad.
I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday, just even for a while,
I’d say goodbye and kiss you and maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized that this could never be,
For emptiness and memories would take the place of me.
When I thought of worldly things I might miss come tomorrow
I thought of you and when I did my heart was filled with sorrow.
When I walked through heavens gates I felt so much at home.
God looked down and smiled at me from his great golden throne
He said, “This is eternity and all I’ve promised you”
Today your life on earth has passed but here life starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last
And since each day is the same there’s no longing for the past.
You have been so faithful so trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things you knew you shouldn’t do.
You have been forgiven and now at last you’re free.
So won’t you come and take my hand and share my life with me?
So when tomorrow starts with out me don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.
---May Almighty God grant you peace dear brother.

Tribute to an amiable in-law
Had opportunity of meeting you during Baba's burial ceremonies. Your calmness throughout the programmes didn't in anyway reflected the power you willed as a top military man.
Your humility was massive. Your memories will forever remain with us. Pray God to blissfully rest your beautiful soul.
Rest on the General. The Apere family, home and abroad and all that are connected to the family in one way or another will definitely miss you, Share and Babanloma communities will surely miss an illustrious son, Kwara will forever miss you and by extension Nigeria has once again lost a dependable General and one of defenders of her territories.
Once again, I say a-tear-ladden Good night to a very dear brother.

Airbourne! Like I have always called you. You are truly one in a million!!
I still don’t understand…. Every time I see your pictures, the memories come and the tears follow. Your amazing sense of humor and philosophical view of life, your take-charge attitude, your “overstrategy” as I would joke, your impatience with imbeciles, your humility, your friendship, your brotherhood, your kindness to even strangers, your openness, your prudence, your dislike for lousiness, your attention to detail, your settling only for the highest standard and quality, your taste for only specific brand-loyality, your love for your family, your love for academia, your love for photography, your love for humanity, your love for probity, for travel, for adventure, for the military, for life, for the nation, for nothing but the best and finally, for Christ….

Words fail me. I still don’t understand but the Lord knows best. May the Lord have mercy on your soul. Go in peace Dayo! You were too much and will be missed every day…

Olumide “Omo Ajayiobe” like you would often hail.

On 15 January 2024 - Armed Forces Celebration & Remembrance Day.

It has taken me almost 3 Years to write a tribute to my dearly beloved General Adedayo Apere, my senior officer, my friend, my mentor & my confidant.

In 1988, when our paths crossed at the Nigerian Defence Academy, you showed me so much kindness while still instilling the required discipline & rigour needed to groom an Officer Cadet into an officer. I felt safe under your tutelage that your putty was constructive and not wickedness despite your insistence that “ Don’t allow Cadet Olugbode talk”.

As commissioned officers in 1995/6, you were in the Amphibious School & l was onboard NNS Ayam in Calabar and our friendship took a senior-junior brother dimension including knowing your then girlfriend & later wife - Madam Sarah.

You appeared on my wedding day without me sending an invitation and took charge of the sword party as if it was pre-arranged. I kept hearing “move back, move back’ to the guests who all wanted to get in the way of the sword party drill.

Next, you were directed to return from the UN in New-York to Nigeria for the higher management of defence course @ NDC - Nigeria. I had a deep feeling of unfairness about the abruptness of your recall & handed you my almost brand new Peugeot 406 to use for the Course. As expected, you maintained the car & returned it in perfect condition on completion of your course. That was quintessential General Dayo Apere.

Then, it was the series of Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorism postings all over Nigeria that made our professional friendship deeper as l constantly had conversations on possible tactics & plans l had observed in India & Asia as Defence Adviser. Your not been around to have gotten your well deserved rank of Major General in the Nigerian Army is a pain l feel daily but know that you are God’s General in Heaven now, Amen.

To Madam Sarah & the Children you left behind, l can see that Almighty God has an eternal plan of protection & provision despite our human inability to provide the succor of your passing to the entire family.

Till we meet to path no more @ the feet of Jesus Christ, Adieu & Fair Winds

TRIBUTE TO A SPECIAL VALUED FRIEND GENERAL APERE

December 1, 2021

I first met Brigadier General Clement Apere about 20 years ago when he came to Ireland to see the wife and their new-born daughter. The nature of my work for God as a church Pastor, afforded me the privilege to meet various kinds of human beings. I saw in General Apere, a rare gem, the best soldier with humility, honesty, reliable and genuine love for his wife and children.

My relationship with General Apere developed greatly because of the above and his love for God as a Christian. His military career did not stop him from reading PHD in Mathematics from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

It was one of the greatest shocks of my life to hear the sudden passage to glory of my friend and brother. I find it very hard to believe that you are gone so soon, words cannot describe my feelings, my heart is broken with this great lost. I remember my last discussion with you in September this year, all was well with you then, but my Friend you left uninformed. The vacuum you left is very had to fill my dear general.

My only consolation about your passing is found in the word of God,

(1st Thess 4: 13-14 13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him)

Although we are meant to believe that you are gone, but not forgotten. Good Night my general.

Pastor Okechukwu A. Osim
