Love of My Life

November 3, 2013

Miss Me But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free,
Miss me a little---but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love we once shared
Miss me---but let me go.
For this is a journey
That we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's Plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely
And sick at heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows
In doing good deeds.

Our Karate Days

July 29, 2012

Bryce and I took Karate together around 1974.  We worked together at 3M.  One day we found this posted on the Employee Bulletin Board for all to read..

Ode to Two Karate “Experts” (my title)

Poem written by “Skinny” Scotty Bonner of 3MCamarillo, CA  circa 1974

They stalked each other, circling round and round,

Like karate experts they made not a sound,

The Henson led with a tremendous kick,

But our man Spencer was too damned quick.

He brought his elbow down in a stunning blow,

That caught Henson just above the toe,

James howled and started dancing around,

One foot in the air, the other on the ground.

Henson fell down and rolled on his side,

And Spencer stood there glowing with pride,

He stood erect like a concrete tower,

In his hands and feet lurks a lethal power.

Yes, James is sure paying the price,

For his Karate practice with Bung Phew Bryce,

I hope his foot doesn’t hurt and pester,

As I sure hate to see him walk around likeChester.

Black Powder shooting with Bryce

March 17, 2012

I guess it started in the mid 1990's. Bryce and I used to go the the "gun shows"

at the Ventura Fair grounds alot then. We would buy ammo and go out to the

"Piru" shooting range and shoot what we brung that particular day.

We got into "Black Power" Rifles and Pistols somewhere along the way and

we would go out to our favorite range in Piru to shoot. We would bring our kids

and sometimes other friends and spend the day BSing and shooting.

Bryce and I would start out the shooting day by stopping along the way there and having  breakfast together and then onto the range. It was located below lake Piru in a large long canyon we would arrive and get all our stuff arranged (with black power there are alot of different things to put in various places so that one can load the weapon safely and properly. Do do this a shooter carries what is called a "possibles bag". It simply has everything in it you might possibly need that day).

In any given "Black Powder" shooting day we might only load up and shoot a total of 20 times. It was the conversation that made the day fun. We would talk about anything under the sun and conversation never lagged with Bryce.

After shooting we would go to one or the others home and clean our guns out in the garage. With all the dangerous ammo and black powder put safely away we could then break out the brews and tip a few before the day was done and we went home to start the new work week the next day.

I shall always cherish the memory those times. Life seemed to be meant for times like those.
