Although it had been 37 years since I last had seen or spoke with Buzzy, when hearing of his illness and last hours of his life, my mind was flooded with sweet memories of our times spent together so long ago. He brought so much sunshine and laughter to all of us who were fortunate enough to have known him. The year of 1972 was when I spent most of my time with him and the reminiscing of how he spent the better part of a day teaching me how to waterski with such patience, the fishing excursions we went on and allowing my Mom to come along because she too loved to fish. Once we went fishing sometime after midnight and when we reached the marina there at Lake Tawakoni, he said we would just borrow some minnows until the next morning and pay for them then. As he was dipping out of the minnow tank there next to the marina, a man came out of the dark and ask if he could help us. Buzzy, my Mom, and me stood there wide eyed and somewhat frightened by his presence. Buzzy was stammering as he explained our situation realizing he had scooped out quite a bit more than we could actually pay for, so he kindly put some back and paid for the rest. We were so scared right at that moment, but had a huge laugh once we were out on the lake fishing. I don’t even know if we caught any fish that night, but who cared we were having fun. I also remember a night on the beach in Corpus Christi driving his tan Nova, spinning donuts in the sand, and him chasing crabs on the beach while I shined the headlights from his car on them. What a fun night we had just playing like two big kids. Another special memory was that he loved the group, Chicago, and going to one of their concerts, along with a few others were some great times. I know that he might have been known as a daredevil, but I never once felt that he would let any harm come to me while we were out having fun. He was truly a special guy and he could make a great time out of just hanging out at the Sonic drive-in for the night. In my heart and mind I remember him as a kind, affectionate, and loving soul that I was grateful to have known. In loving memory of Buzzy.
