Byron Paul Baker, 62, of, Linn, Missouri, passed away on October 24, 2016. He was born on February 1,1954 in Jefferson City to Clarence and Claudia (Ferguson) Baker.

Byron grew up in Linn and graduated from Linn High School in 1972. After high school he attended college at the University of Missouri in Columbia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics, with a minor in Finance, upon his graduation in 1976.

After college, Byron began his career in the banking industry, first working at Millikin National Bank and then First National Bank, respectively located in Decatur and Belleville, Illinois. Byron returned to Linn in 1985, where he worked at Legends Bank for 31 years as Senior Vice President.

Byron was very active in the local community, having worked on numerous developments and serving on several boards and member associations. He lived life to the fullest and treasured spending time with his family and friends. His infectious smile, hearty laughter and occasional mischievous look, often signaled a good time and he loved sharing those moments with others.

Bryon was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Claudia, and his brother John Richard.

Byron is survived by his sons, Benjamin (Kristin), Bradley (Abby) and Bryce (Samantha) Baker; his sister, Aimee (Lane), brothers Clell (Janet) and Clate (Ann); his former spouse, Barbara; and his granddaughters, Daphne, Avery, and Olivia.

In honoring Byron’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service. The Baker family sincerely thanks everyone for their support and condolences. We kindly ask that in lieu of flowers or gifts, to please call or spend time with a loved one or friend, who may be going through a difficult time in his or her life.

Keep smiling.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Byron!
I guess I’ll never get over not having you to talk to. I think I’ve got to tell Byron this and then remember your not here anymore. I sure would have liked to have your view on what’s going on today in our country. Maybe it would make me feel better about everything.
You were a true friend.

Byron and I were classmates from Kindergarten through High School. Even though we lost touch over the years anytime we reconnected at a high school reunion the years between us melted away. I'll always miss you my old dear friend. Rest in Peace. Becky Harbaugh

Byron and I were Graham Hall roommates at Mizzou and later housemates at 401 College Ave. We kept in touch over the years. He was a wonderful person, a very colorful person and also a very bright and competent fellow. A go to guy. His passing is a terrible shock. He will be missed by all who knew him well. RIP, Byron.

Byron was a great friend who is already missed. I was drawn to his laughter, intelligence, and sense of adventure. (It also didn't hurt that when I needed money to buy toys, he worked at my hometown bank!) Being 20 years younger than him meant nothing to our friendship, other than I looked up to him. He was a great friend to all who knew him. Rest in peace Byron. - Patrick Jaegers

I was fortunate to work with Bryon for over 25 years. He taught me a great deal over that period and I greatly enjoyed our time together. He loved working with his many customers and with his coworkers here, and the measure of his worth as a person is captured by the tremendous outpouring of concern and support that literally hundreds of people expressed for him as he recovered these past weeks. We grieve that he is no longer with us, but are comforted that he is now at peace.  Our sincerest condolences from his Legends Bank family. -- John A. Klebba

I met Byron thru his fiancé, Virginia. She is a great friend and I knew that Byron must be very special for her to be so in love with him. She told me how they met in college and lost touch but then reunited a few years ago. Byron and I had a few chances to visit, and I could see just how much he loved Virginia. I felt very welcome in their home, and Byron made me feel like an old friend to him as well as Virginia. I'm deeply saddened that their lives together couldn't have lasted many more years.
