His Life

Carroll

Carroll "Carl" Bertrand Miller Jr.

On August 24, 2012 Carroll "Carl" Bertrand Miller Jr. passed away peacefully in Saint Augustine, Florida.

Carroll "Carl" Bertrand Miller Jr. was born on November 1, 1925 in Binghamton, NY to Pauline Isabelle Hayes and Carroll Bertrand Miller Senior, an Entertainer. Carroll Miller Sr. was an entertainer from the Vaudeville days and he traveled in a circus circuit performing magic and ventriloquism to entertain the masses. In Holly Hill, FL, Carl Miller Sr. even performed for local school children and entertained the masses through television shows.

Mr. Miller Jr. felt called to serve his country during World War II in the fall of 1943. Thus, he joined the United States Navy on October 12, 1943 in Albany, NY as an apprentice Seaman. Later, he transferred to Naval training in Sampson, NY. On June 13, 1946, he was honorably discharged from the Navy as Seaman First Class while in New Orleans.

Upon leaving the military, Carl followed in his fathers footsteps by joining the circus circuit as a magician and ventriloquist.  Carl loved nothing more than to entertain and bring smiles to the faces of children and adults watching his performances.

Later, Carl married the stunning Shirley Emma Curtis and they had two children, Carol Miller (named after her father) and Marcus Miller.

Later, in February of 1991, Mr. Miller continued to fulfill his passion and dedication to serve his country by joining the Broome County, NY Sheriffs Department.  Upon moving to Vermont, he joined the Orleans County, Vermont Sheriffs department as a Deputy Sheriff. Carl was very proud of both his military service and his service with the Sheriffs Department. Later, shortly before his death, he became a security guard.

His hobbies included playing the piano (his favorite song was Claire De Lune), magic, ventriloquism, coin collecting, and handyman work. Their was really nothing that my grandfather could not build or fix.

My grandfather was one of the strongest people I know, never one to complain, he carried on with enthusiasm and perseverance.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Carol Vos, his son, Marcus Miller and grandaughter, Jennifer M. Evans. Carl will be greatly missed by many.
