His Life
August 22, 2014

On Tuesday, August 19, 2014, Carl Phillips transitioned peacefully into life immortal. Born January 22, 1952 to the late Lula Mae Towns Phillips and Clarence Phillips, Sr. in Hogansville, Georgia, Carl was the sixth of eight children born to this union.

Carl was a 1969 graduate of West End High School in Hogansville. After completing high school he moved to Atlanta to live with his oldest brother, Clarence Jr., in pursuit of a better future.

At an early age he accepted Christ as the head of his life, joined and
maintained his membership at St. Mary United Methodist Church.

He worked several years at Macy’s, formerly Davison Warehouse,
where he impacted many other employees with his jovial spirit, style
and humor so much so he ensured they maintained contact even after
they all ventured out to other careers.

Carl had a successful career at the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit
Authority (MARTA) as a bus operator. He received many rewards and
accolades for his outstanding customer service and driving record. He
retired July 2013 after 35 years of dedicated service.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Charles
and Clarence, Jr.

He leaves with precious memories to cherish his son, Carl Abasi
Phillips, who was the pride and joy of his life. Carl's kind and jovial
spirit, passion for the Atlanta Falcons, and zest for life will live on
through Abasi.

He is also survived by five sisters, Hattie (Leon) Pollard, Rudene
(Robert) Lindsey, W. Kate Parker, Geraldine Robinson, Gloria Jean
Phillips; one brother, Clifford Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews
and cousins. Carl adored Abasi’s siblings and referred to Bakari Yabuku
and Aulani Carter as "his children." They affectionately called him
"Daddy Bobo."

Carl was committed to his family and community. He was loved by all
who knew him and will be dearly missed.
