Her Life

A mother. A fighter. A sister. A cousin. A Best friend.

March 20, 2021
Carmen Elizondo Bernal, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 13, 2021. She was born February 24, 1953 in San Antonio, Tx. to Matilde and Sixto Elizondo Jr.

Carmen graduated from Edison High School in 1971. Soon after, she became the librarian for Agnes Cotton School. Her love for interior decorating then found her working alongside Derrick Dodge for many years. Shortly after having her first born, she worked for Tesoro Petroleum. She was very nurturing and caring so it was only suitable that she began working for a home health care facility. She cared for her patients like they were her own family. She raised her family of 4 and started working for UPS as an HR supervisor for 18 years before retiring in 2018.

In 2008 she married Henry R. Bernal, a young man she had met in middle school. They were married for 12 years but he secretly loved her for 56 years. Being the oldest daughter, she naturally took the role of being a second mother to all of her siblings. She took care of everyone. Her children's friends called her their second mother. She loved to give a helping hand to everyone, especially her family. She enjoyed sewing, decorating, cooking, reading, and shopping. Her greatest joy was to spend time with her family and attend her grandchildren's cheerleading, baseball, and fast pitch softball games.

She will be reunited in heaven with her parents Matilde and Sixto Elizondo and sister-in law, Pam Sweet Elizondo. She was a loving and amazing mother, caring sister, devoted aunt, adoring godmother, and loyal friend and will be deeply missed.

Carmen will always be remembered by her loving husband, Henry R. Bernal. She is also survived by her children, Trudy Stone(Sammy), Jerry Trevino Jr. (Victoria), Nina Trevino-Earl(Joe), and Jessica Trevino; grandchildren, Elizabeth Earl, Justin Baker, Alexander Earl, Jerry Trevino III, Chloe Baker, Christopher Earl, and Benjamin Earl; siblings, Sixto Elizondo III, Sam Elizondo, Olga Elizondo, Cris Garcia, Norma Alvarez, Oscar Elizondo, and Ana Cortez; Her mother-in-law, Armandina Bernal, 3 brothers-in-law and 1 sister-in-law, 31 nieces and nephews, 45 great nieces and nephews, 6 on the way, 2 great-great nieces and nephews, 1 on the way, as well as a lifetime of friends.
