Today we are gathered to participate
and pay a well-deserved "Birthday Tribute" in memory of my MUM! Carmen
Vera King (Nee Battice).
A Phenomenal Amazing Woman, who sadly departed from us ten
months ago, leaving us all Deeply Grief Stricken and Heartbroken.
Mum was born, Carmen Vera Battice, on 22nd February 1922: A native of
British Guiana. In her early life she enjoyed a rich and exciting life, boasting many
friends and even more acquaintances. She begun from an early age to
demonstrate her aptitude for dress making, and went on to become an outstanding
seamstress. She thereafter established her career as the renowned
seamstress she became.
Mum was also very well known for her sometimes elaborate culinary skills. She became the proud Mother of four offspring:-
Margaret, Colin, Lenny and Sonia.
Mum continued being a seamstress while raising her family and one could
always count on having a great time in her company, especially when a party was
planned. Her acclaimed career path was of such, that her clients were always
prepared to sit and wait, sometimes in their underwear for lengthy periods,
until their garments were taken off the sewing machine, and she could dress
them (especially brides).
Mum impacted many lives, and there was always someone at the house, who
would wait patiently to seek her advice, counsel and guidance. She was always
in demand.
After my Dad departed, many, many years prior, Mum continued to support
her family single handily. Mum has along her life's journey acquired ten
grandchildren; Andrew, Aubrey, Michelle, Peter, Dacia, Muse, TsiTsi, Aisha, Kadia
and Osaze. Sadly both Peter and Muse were called home to Eternal Rest much
sooner than our family had anticipated. Despite this, mum continued to be her
stoic self in supporting her family through these losses and maintaining a
sense of normality, love and togetherness for which she is fondly known.
Mum is survived and celebrated by her four children, eight grandchildren,
thirteen great grand children and her six great great grandchildren.
HER Legacy is undisputed and will embrace us all until the day we join
her. We will never forget her.
Her Children, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great
Grandchildren, Cousins, and a multitude of friends and acquaintances will be
able to hold onto everlasting memories of this Marvelous Phenomenal Woman.
