Carol Lynn Chappell

Following a courageous two-year battle with cancer in which she continuously displayed both grit and good humor, Carol Lynn Chappell (nee Hager) passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2021.

Born March 25, 1968, in Milwaukee, Wis., Carol was blessed with a loving mother, Sharon Piira (nee Hager), and father, Norm Piira. She graduated in 1987 from Washington High School in Milwaukee, where she was a champion competitive swimmer and named homecoming princess.

She married the love of her life, Charles Chappell Sr., on April 3, 1997. The two loved fishing together and taking their chances at Potawatomi Casino. While Carol and Charles had differing personality traits, the two remained tirelessly dedicated to one another throughout their marriage.

As a member of the Ojibwe Tribe, Carol was incredibly proud of her Native American heritage and enjoyed attending pow wows. She also loved to crochet and adored spending time with her children and grandchildren. Carol would often attend blues concerts with many of her older children. Over the years she worked as a CNA, bus driver, security guard, and homemaker.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; mother, Sharon; niece, Jeanette Smith; and mother-in-law, Mina Lee Rand.

She leaves behind many to cherish her memory, including her father, Norm; sons, Michael Chappell Sr. (Shaquilla), Charles Chappell Jr., Anthony Chappell (Karen), and Cedric Chappell (Antoinette); daughters, Sariah Merryfield (Eric), Esther Chappell, Daurice Blackmore, Valerie Blackmore, Joanne Blackmore Harvey, Beverly Chappell, Renee Chappell, and Annette Chappell Young; sisters Jodi Gonzalez (Christopher) and Niki Smith; brothers Scott Hager (Marcia) and James Smith; and an abundance of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.

A memorial service honoring Carol will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Peace of Mind Funeral Home, 5325 W. Greenfield Ave., West Milwaukee, WI 53214. Guests are invited to gather in remembrance of Carol from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a formal service starting at 1 p.m.
