Carole Jean MacTaggart (87) passed away March 27, 2021 after a battle with a chronic lung infection and dementia.She was born the youngest of 9 children to Loma and Adam Fissel on August 21, 1933 in Spencerville, OH.
After graduating Spencerville High School in 1951, Carole left for the big city of Cleveland, Ohio where she stayed with her older sister Mary, while working as a secretary. One big adventure she took was a solo trip to Europe, sailing on the Queen Elizabeth, and touring England and France.
She would meet and fall in love with Ronald “Mac” MacTaggart in 1957. They married less than a year later and had a wonderful marriage of nearly 62 years. Ron and Carole raised their children, Tim and Anita, in Elyria, Ohio where they resided until 1994.
Carole and Mac moved to Florida in 1994.They lived in the Spruce Creek retirement golf community in Marion County until 2006.They had lived with their daughter, Anita, and her family since that time in Tallahassee and then Gainesville, FL. Until Mac preceded her in death approximately 8 months ago on August 4, 2020.
She took up Mac’s lifelong passion for golf after retirement, and they enjoyed golfing together for many years. Carole took great pride in having two Hole-in Ones, while Mac had just one.
She is survived by; son Tim MacTaggart and his partner Tammy Pfenning of Troy, OH; daughter Anita Pittman, her husband Stephen of Tampa, FL; and grandson Barrett of Gainesville, FL; sister Kathleen Morris of Mission, TX. Carole was preceded in death by her father (1961), and mother (1963), brother Robert (1926), brother Howard (1990), brother Harold (1992), brother Donald (1998), sister Fern (2008), sister Betty (2010), and sister Mary (2014).
Per her wishes, Carole was cremated and her ashes will be combined with Mac’s and scatted on a golf course to be named later. In light of the current health crisis, there will be no services at this time.
In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of Carole’s faith, please make a charitable contribution to the First Congregational Church of Elyria, Ohio, where Carole was instrumental in starting the Altar Guild.
