A native of Union Springs, AL., she was the daughter of the late Turner and Johnnie Kate Jackson Phillips. Residing in Columbus most of her life, she was a retired Domestic Engineer. She was a member of Greater Peace Baptist Church and attended Kingdom Faith Outreach Ministries where her daughter is pastor. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ocie Triggs.


Surviving are her husband, Phillip E. Nelms; a son, Raymond Phillips(Sheila); a daughter, Bishop Veranica Haynes(Overseer Willie Haynes); twelve grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren; one brother, Jimmie Jones; one sister, Mary Allen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Forrest Nelams, Otis Nelams, David Nelams, Jane Nelams, Geraldine Nelams, Annie Whitaker, Rosemary Nelams and Debra Nelams; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
