This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Catalina Hernandez Marchena, 59, born on April 1, 1954 and passed away on April 8, 2013. We will remember her forever.

Catalina (Caty) Hernandez Marchena, age 59, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, peacefully entered eternal rest on Monday, April 8, 2013 with her loving husband of 38 years, and their three children and family at her bedside. Caty fought a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 1, 1954 in San Salvador, El Salvador to Gregorio and Elena Hernandez Murillo.

Caty arrived in New York City in 1972 in search of a brighter future. In 1975, Caty married the love of her life, Alvaro (Tony) Marchena and the couple moved to Houston shortly thereafter to raise their three children.

Family and friends were Caty’s passion and delight.  She loved reading her Bible, rejoicing the Lord, gardening, going to the beach with her grandkids, and cooking for her family and friends. Caty left a legacy and touched so many lives.  She lived to serve and care for others.  That is what brought her true happiness.  Her big heart, contagious laugh, and radiant personality will be greatly missed.

Caty is survived by her husband, Alvaro (Tony) Marchena, son Randall Marchena, daughter Daisy Marchena, daughter Dolly Kennard and husband Alfonso Kennard Jr., grandson Alfonso Kennard, III, granddaughters Ava Marie and Grace Catherine Kennard, brother Rigoberto Hernandez, brother Carlos Hernandez, brother Jesus Murillo, sister Mercedez Hernandez, and her sisters-in-law who were like sisters to her, Miriam Marmanillo, Dolly Burford, Esther (Chica) Kemery, Carmiña Tate, Angelica Lopez, and Jenny Gonzalez.  She also leaves behind numerous family and friends.

The family wishes to thank all family and friends who prayed and cared for her and her family during this time. Arrangements are being provided by Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery.
