Her Life

Catherine Ann Saathoff

March 29, 2019

Catherine Ann Saathoff (Cathy) passed away on March 29, 2019 in League City, Texas after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born June 8, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas to Lucille and Fred Thomas. She graduated from Burbank High School in San Antonio and promptly married her childhood friend and love of her life, Donald Ray Saathoff. And off they went to the University of Texas and around the country to start and grow a family. Cathy was a very sweet tough cookie - she loved her family and friends immensely and survived many trials: being born 3 months premature, a pitchfork through the foot, a chainsaw to the hand and many falls. She always got up and thrived. She was such a strong and loving Mom and Grandma who loved her family with all her heart. She loved to shop and to give, particularly to her grandkids. She was bursting with energy and pursued many hobbies: painting and decoupaging, painting and firing ceramics, splashing avocado green on all sorts of furniture, sewing, reading and gardening. Oh yeah - and rearranging everything!

Mom also loved to fish at the Texas coast and elsewhere. She enjoyed being on Dennis' boat with her dog, Maggie. She was also a "theme park aficionado", buying many annual passes to SeaWorld for her loved ones and visiting Disney World.

Mom had a special quality of innocence, a fresh enthusiasm. Her friends called her the Energizer Bunny. She loved getting the "neat stuff" for her kids and grandkids and loved to find the coolest stuff for the Christmas stockings - stockings hand-made by her and her mother.

Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Saathoff, married 54 years. She is survived by her sons Don Saathoff, Jr. (Carolyn), Dennis Saathoff, Tommy Saathoff, her daughter Tammy Saathoff, sister-in-law Elaine Hambright (Robert) and family, grandchildren Shauna Gordon (Travis), Tyler Saathoff, Jillian Saathoff, Toby Saathoff and Trenton Saathoff. She was loved by all and was a ton of fun, even close to the end.

A special thank you to our brother, Dennis, for giving so much of his time caring for Mom over the years since Dad died.

Ladies of Orchard Park, your wonderful care and love for our Mom and Grandma has been phenomenal!   Thank you dearly!❤️

Love you, Mom.  Hope there's a great mall in heaven!

All your family and friends
