Her Life
October 10, 2016

Mrs. Cecilia Hopson was born September 22, 1955 in Hogansville, GA to the late Nancy Clara Finley and Ernest Finley Jr. Cecilia’s life was devoted to serving the Lord in whatever capacity she was chosen for, whether it was singing in the choir, mentoring souls or serving as the catalyst for her entire family. Her life represented the epitome of what it meant to possess the title of a “Christian,” because she always exhibited her faith whether experiencing adversity or triumphs throughout her life. On October 8, 2016, she ascended to Heaven to further serve the Lord.

At an early age, Cecilia joined the Springfield Baptist church in Hogansville, Ga, under the leadership of the late Reverend Edward R. Davie., while at Springfield; she joined the church choir at a young age. She later joined Union Chapel United Methodist under the leadership of Reverend Walter McMullen, where she was an active member in the church and choir until her death.

Cecilia was a very humble woman that enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whether it was traveling or playing with them in the backyard that she specifically designed for them. Additional hobbies that she valued were reading the bible and listening and singing Gospel music, because she believed through her talents that she helped spread the word of God.

Cecilia attended Hogansville High School where she graduated in 1973. Upon completion of high school, Cecilia found employment with Seamco Sport Equipment in LaGrange, Georgia, where she remained until her marriage to Alton Hopson, Jr. From here Cecilia traveled the world with her husband Alton who was in the United State Air Force. She became a mother to Clifton and Curtis while remaining a devoted wife, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend until her untimely death.

Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents Nancy Clara Finley, and Ernest Finley, Jr., a sister, Delores Jean Gooden, maternal and paternal grandparents, several aunts, and uncles. Cecilia leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted and loving husband of 38 years, Alton Hopson Jr.; two sons, Clifton (Miya) Hopson Sr. and Curtis (Bonji) Hopson; two sisters, Cynthia (Frank) Cameron and Denise Finley; two brothers, Derrick Patterson and Tony (Tammy) Patterson; three grandsons, Carsen Hopson, Clifton Hopson Jr., and Cameron Hopson, four sister-in-laws, Delores Strozier, Fannie Cameron, Bertha Cameron, Ida (Tip) Lakes; special friends, John Rutledge Jr., Michael (Ann) Culliver, Render (Jeanette) Crowder and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
