This memorial website was created in memory of our father, Rick Shearer, 85 years old, born on November 11, 1935, and passed away on March 13, 2021. He was a huge Cubs fan and enjoyed watching baseball and football. He loved to play games and enjoyed a regular card game with his close friends. For many years he volunteered for Misericordia's Candy Days. This was a charity that was close to his heart. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Misericordia in his name.  https://www.misericordia.com/giving/

His final wishes were carried out by Chicagoland Cremation Options.  Feel free to follow the link below to read his obituary.

I knew Rick for a lifetime but didn’t know him well.

I do know he was an avid Cubs fan, I know he lived life to its fullest, and I know he loved his family and friends.

I know he was loved and I know he will be missed. Keeping his family and friends in our thoughts.

Rick was my best friend. We met over 35 years ago at the Lighthouse Tavern on our street in Chicago.  We were romantically involved for several years but when that aspect of our relationship ended, our friendship didn't.  He was the happiest guy in the neighborhood, despite several obstacles thrown at him. Always happy. My family embraced him and he stayed in touch with my parents right up to their deaths a few years ago. My son,Thad, adored Rick and he was still in touch with him after Thad became a husband and a father.  Rick outlived so many good friends, Marshall, Kevin, Chuck, Bobbie, Robsie, Evelyn...and many more who loved him. My life was blessed with his love and friendship.  My heart is aching, but filled with wonderful memories of the best friend I ever had. Love you Rick, always.

Cedric (Rick)  and I became partners years ago with our seats on the Chicago Board Options Exchange.  We called it Shearer Savage – which caused people to smile -- and he wore that on his trading jacket.  Rick was a sharp guy and could do the trading calculations far more quickly than I could!  We made a bunch of money – and a friendship that lasted his lifetime.  In fact, I spoke to him a few weeks before his passing, and sent him an autographed copy of my latest book so he could prove to his friends that we were once a great team!
