ForeverMissed

In the early hours of the morning on Monday, October 10th, the world lost Charles Clayton Sipe, III. Many would say that Chuck lost his battle against cancer, but those who loved him know that he won. He won eight years in this fight, and they are eight years we are eternally grateful for. But enough about cancer.
Chuck taught those around him the true meaning of unconditional love. He and his wife of forty-two  years, Katherine Sipe (nee Daigle), didn’t just live happily together. They faced challenges, weathered  storms, rode ups and downs, and through it all, chose each other every day. Together, they faced  demons, acknowledged and accepted each other’s flaws, and committed to doing and being better.  Chuck told his wife, children – Bethany Berth, Mallory Long, and Ashley Lasoski, and grandchildren – Kinsley, Julianna, Nathan, Emily, Connor, Riley, and Tyler, that he loved them not only in words but in  actions every day. He gave tight hugs, kissed bumps and scrapes, shared his feelings and thoughts with  eloquence and vulnerability, and truly enjoyed nothing more than being near those he loved most  dearly. He was witty, supportive, brilliant, kind, and compassionate. He had a beautiful laugh, he played  guitar and sang, he juggled, he whistled and snapped, he spoke in accents and impersonations, he knew  how and when to be truly funny, and he baked a mean banana bread. He even won grand prize at a Chili  Cook Off! He was stubborn and had a need to always be right (he would admit it himself!) He was an  artist, a poet, a creator. In high school, he was an accomplished athlete, competing in the high jump and  long jump, running sprints, and playing basketball. He loved his daughters more than life itself and was  proud every day of the strong women they had become. He loved and respected his sons-in-law, James  Berth and Phil Lasoski. His greatest joys were his grandchildren. He was in awe of each one of them and  cherished every moment he got to share with them. His stories about his childhood and his wonderful,  close-knit family will be remembered fondly. He is pre-deceased by his loving parents – Charles “Clay”  Sipe, II and Beverly Sipe (nee Lund), his sister, Margot Beauchamp, his nephew, Matthew Beauchamp,  and his niece, Rose Eaton. He is survived by six brothers and sisters: Ann (Ken) Leukens, Donna (Larry)  Streeter, Kirk Sipe, Gina (Dan) Eaton, Paul (Chrissy) Sipe, and Faith Sipe, his brother-in-law, Michael  Beauchamp, and too many nieces and nephews to name. He was so grateful to have his niece, Erin  (Matt) Kucinski, who he loved dearly, and his honorary grandson, Matthew close by. Chuck had a strong  spiritual faith. He believed in a loving God and tried to live a life of service through his work helping  those fighting addiction, struggling youth, and, at the end of his career, persons with disabilities as the  Director of Mosaic in Delaware. At Mosaic, he had found his niche, and it was a sad day when he was  forced to retire due to cancer. In his time there, he advocated and spearheaded a program called  Rejoicing Spirits, which collaborates with congregations to incorporate individuals with disabilities into  their faith communities to be active, contributing members. This program has since spread to eighteen  states and fifty congregations. Wherever and with whomever he worked, he demonstrated what it really  was to work in service to the individuals who needed him. He cared deeply for each person he served  without caveat or exception. While he was truly passionate in the work he did, the silver lining of his  retirement was the time he got with each of his grandchildren and the relationships he was able to  develop with them. We are going to miss absolutely everything about him. His light will shine bright  through stories and memories always.

My memory of Chuck comes from our childhood and early adulthood. My knowledge of him at that time was that he always radiated through his music, curiosity, and his love for his family. Though we have not been in touch recently, it was very nice to read how he continued to develop his talents while having such a loving influence on so many people. A life well lived. My love and sympathy to his family and friends.

I had the opportunity to work with Chuck at Mosaic. What a kind, loving human being. He always put the individuals we supported and staff first. He never had a bad word to say about anybody. He taught me so much in the short time he was there. Chuck has made such an impact on all who worked with Mosaic, directly and indirectly. It was truly a sad day when Chuck had to leave us. Tears shed, hearts hurting, there was no one better. We could see everyday how much he loved Kathy and the girls. He talked about them all the time. I will never forget and it will always brings a smile to my face. No matter whether Chuck was in the office, or we were out at an external site, he always had his coffee cup with him. And when he started bringing his lunch to Mosaic, he always had such a big smile on his face when he saw the twinkie Kathy would always pack him. We all loved Chuck and will miss him dearly. It was great for us when Chuck came back to Mosaic and did consultant work for us. We missed seeing him every day so to see him a couple of days a week again was great. I will always cherish the time Chuck and Kathy allowed myself and some of my colleagues at Mosaic at that time to come visit them at their house in NJ. That was such a nice visit. Chuck will live in our hearts and memories. My condolences and deepest sympathy to Kathy, the girls, the grandkids, and Chucks family. He will indeed be forever missed. We love ya Chuck.
