I hear a train a coming...

March 7, 2021
Papaw never claimed to be a singer but he loved to sing to me. A few of his go to songs were...Johnny cash-Folsom prison blues, the chordettes-mr.sandman, and hank Williams-I’m so lonesome I could cry. My favorite was Folsom prison blues and he continued singing that for years even to my daughter Capri. I remember when I was little sitting out on the porch and hearing him sing that in his deepest voice as we would watch the train roll down the tracks and I would  move my arm up and down so they would blow the whistle. Oh papaw when I hear that train a coming ( god calling) I’ll be ready with my ticket in hand to board the train to be with you again!!!

Fishing trip

March 7, 2021
So many memories with papaw I could write a book. Some of the best times we had was the many fishing trips we would take . I have a BIG love for fishing because of him. We would get up early and get our gear ready and grab the sandwiches Mamaw had packed for us and we would spend all day at the pond fishing. He taught me to bait my own hook, however I always ask him to take the fish off the hook for me. He would say “little girl you gotta have patience” but I enjoyed reeling and casting out about  as much as I did catching the actual fish. I would get my line caught on trees a lot and I hooked papaws ear once as well he knew he wouldn’t get  much fishing in on those days because he was helping me, but it was never about the fishing. It was about the memories made sitting with him by that pond talking about his child hood and my future from sun up till sun down. I’m over due for a fishing trip and I like to think he is setting right beside me as I’m casting in and reeling in that big fish!

The pet flea

March 7, 2021
Papaw always had tall tales and stories to share that would make you laugh. We called it (cabes tall tales) one of mine and I think I can speak for some cousins of mine was his pet flea. Just something silly and fun he would tell us kiddos to get us laughing. He use to say “come here and see my pet flea He lives in my pocket”. He then would put said flea in his hands and he was so believable that we felt like we really saw mr.flea he said “ watch do you see him jump?” One of the last things I said to him the day he passed other than the I love yous and  we will see you again and that we will be ok was that I promised to take good care of that pet flea and continue sharing this story along with many other stories.
