I only met him a couple times. He loved that my nickname was Shortney. Chris has told me several stories about him. Every story showed me what a great and talented person he was. He was also an amazing and loving father. I know he is greatly missed by all of those that knew and loved him.

His Life

Self Taught and good with his hands!

January 30, 2019

So... Charlie was a high school graduate and served in the National Guards.

But he was great with learning how to do ANYTHING!

He watched and taught himself how to work on huge expensive equipment for the Bristol Herald Courier.

Pretty soon they no longer had to call in the out of state machine mechanic - because Charlie could fix them and do the service himself!

He once said he that he didn't want anything to do with computers--- but a few years later he was an expert--- he could take them apart - put them together and make them do anything.

He loved to work with his hands and in his later years he could make beautiful tables and stands out of odds and ends.

Just give him anything and he could figure it out!

ONE OF CHARLIE'S FAVORITE POETS- HE KNEW HER PERSONALLY AND HE HIMSELF MAY HAVE INSPIRED THIS WRITING:

  • Touched By a Poet
    .
    In the light of wisdom,
    lives a poet, strangely quiet.
    Placing before him a parchment.
    .
He dips his pen into his heart and
    with deliberate strokes, and love
he rests himself upon your soul.
    .
He writes of love, peace, sorrow,
    aging, learning and joy.
    His words are powerful.
    .
He ignites passion in your soul.
Phrases that leave you to explore
and find the puzzle they complete.
    .
He brings you to tears, causes you to
search your soul from a collection of words,
yet he is humble and unassuming.
    .
He explores the hidden gardens of friendship.
Dances in furrows of flowers and makes them sing
Shares with you the blush of a violet or rose.
    .
Paints images before your eyes as he
    sprinkles your consciousness with
bits and pieces of past and future.
    .
His words are of time, now, then and beyond.
Reaches into your soul, seeks the truth,
    embraces it with his warmth.
    .
Becomes your friend and peace of mind.
A friendship is born between you and the poet.
Through this mist of a poets words

is heard, the echo of poetry.

His Talents were many -- he always surprised people

January 30, 2019

Charlie could have been many things;

a Poet

he wrote many over the years and had offers to get them published

a Songwriter

he had a recording contract offered to him in 1974- but didn't have the front money

an Artist

he shared his art with many and enjoyed it so much

He could never decide quite what direction to go in--- as a young man.

I think he was a little afraid or unsure and thought he would fail.

BUT--- he was blessed with so many talents and gifts!

He could always surprise someone with what he could do!

His WORDS, his ART and his funny sense of humor will be missed by many---

and by this--- Silver Lady

"In Boxes"....

January 31, 2019

While cleaning out his apartment we found some expected things ------ and some very sweet things.

He loved pretty things and was a collector of nick -nacks!

There was lots of poems --- old and yellowed and some hand written.

Artwork he had done as gifts for many.

Copies of that old recording contract where he was offered to publish his songs.

---every birthday and father's day card from his son, every grade card through elementary school for Chris, and wallets full of every picture of his son.

He was always a dedicated father even when he had a stubborn spell.....
