Chuck and Judy and my folks Jack and Marlene were always running around together either with Quinn and my brother Kris in tow to Zoos, Botanical gardens, down town events and museums and more. I actually think over the years Quin and Kris thought of each other as family which we all did. I was a kit in HS and Judy hired me and my older brother to do work on their Brinker Road house stripping paint from the vintage wood and she always had a delicious lunch and snacks for us as we worked. Holidays were fun with the Kelley's over for our annual Christmas Open Houses on Oak Knoll Rd. The wild cars Chuck would show up with and all the cool grown up talk to listen in on as they visited-just all wonderful blessed memories. Covid through a giant wrench in my Dad, Jack, Sr and Mom, Marlene coming back up from Florida to see more of Chuck and the gang. Many lunches, dinners and outings were missed but the for of them had many great meals and visits with Judy up until it was time for her extra care. Chuck doting on her every need was so visible and apparent to Mom and Dad as they dined together with Chuck taking ever so good care of her. We stored a surrey of Chuck and Judy's in our barn for a long time for them, I remember sitting in it trying to talk our horses into considering pulling it but I never got up the nerve and I'm sure Dad would've had to buy it from Chuck after I'd have wrecked it behind our green horses! Chuck and Judy, Until we meet again! You're with your lifelong love and companion and hanging out with Carol Shelby and all the greats I know! Love ya big guy!

Chuck was a wonderful friend and boss. It was always a pleasure to go to work knowing Chuck would be there. Over the years we had a lot of laughs and good times. Friends like Chuck don't come along very often in life. I was fortunate to be his friend.

I send my sympathies to the family on your father's passing. You were truly blessed with a father like Chuck.

Thank you for sharing the wonderful photos. It was comforting to see all the family enjoying special times together.

Charles (Chuck) Sherman Kelley 81 of Barrington, IL, born Oak Park, IL deceased September 10th, 2021 Barrington, IL of Leukemia.
Chuck was born to Joseph Sherman Kelley and Helen A. Banks New Year’s Eve of 1939, 8 years after his sister Lerria (deceased) in Oak Park, IL. He attended Oak Park River Forest High School where he met his wife of 55 years Judith A. Kelley (deceased April 2019). He went on to the University of Illinois before joining the Army. He then pursued his engineering degree from Bradley University where he majored in electrical and hydraulic disciplines, eventually earning his master's of engineering. He never stopped teaching everyone around him, especially his children, about math, engineering, cars, and all things that struck his very curious nature.
After college, Chuck worked for such companies as Victor Gasket, Detroit Diesel, Mohr & Federhaff A.G., where he used his creative skills to develop multiple inventions and file numerous patents. He worked on real estate development in Ft. Myers building condominiums in the 70s, which led him to buy a marina in Crystal Lake Il, where he spent countless hours restoring old cars, boats & motorcycles. Chuck’s ability to fix anything mechanical gave him the term of endearment ‘Albert’. He became a Coast Guard 100 Ton certified Captain.

Chuck’s love of cars led him to be President of the Illinois Car Club, Judge at many Concourse Events, a founder of the Barrington Concourse, winner of many trophies, collector, horse trader, and on November 17th, 2019, he was awarded the longest charter member of the Antique Car Club of America- where he became a member at age 15.

Whether he was the emcee of a car show, or winning ‘Most Colorful Beard’ at the annual Barrington 4th of July Fest, he always had a joke, a limerick, a smile and a contagious laugh that could get him away with more than most. This joy of life gave him the affectionate nickname ‘Chuckles’, that stayed with him to the end.
He is survived by his four children, Christopher (Jodi), Timothy (Maureen), Kimberly Keller (Patrick), and Quinten (Christina), and grandchildren, Austin, Kiara, Madison, Emma, Charlie, Christian, McKenna, Kaden, and the late Kayla.
A celebration of life open house will be held at Makray Country Club on the afternoon of Oct 29th 2021 from 5-8pm. Honors and taps will be at 5pm. Please RSVP if possible to a family member. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Chuck can be sent to the Leukemia foundation https://www.lls.org/ways-to-give, and/or JourneyCare Care Center www.journeycare.org.
A special thank you to all of his closest friends and confidants that made this journey so special. You all took care of him which is a blessing to spend more time with the knowing it is limited.
As Chuck said his last day “Life is short, get on with it”

Charles had eye surgery and couldn't drive his black caddy for the Back to the Future McDonald commerical so he asked me to drive it. It turned out to be an all day and evening event. We had a great day. I was wearing plaid shorts and t shirt and a hat. They told me at the end of day to return my clothes to wardrobe and Charles told them it they were my own clothes. Then preceded to tell me to pick up my paycheck. I ended up getting paid more than Charles and was put into the Actors Guild for 1 year in case they wanted use me again. Charles was so pissed that I got more money than him. We laughed about it all the time.
He would come over for breakfast and coffee all the time. I miss my buddy alot!

I never had the pleasure of meeting Charles, but my wife and I have known his son Quinn and daughter-in-law Christina for some time now. Quinn is a great guy and I can only imagine that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Our sympathies to Quinn, Christina, and the entire Kelly Clan. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
