Salmon Fishing?
My name is Mikey Wilkens (Schow) and Buddy is my uncle. I don't remember the exact year but it was in the early 1970's when we went camping my dad Ray, and two brothers Russ and Rhett and our uncle Buddy, not far over the border into British Columbia.
We were not far from a river/creek. The morning after we set up camp, my brother Russ went down to the water and was soon yelling for everyone. We went down to the water quickly to see Russ was standing in the river/creek that was thick with these huge salmon. I guess Russ figured it was time to go fishing. Russ was grabbing these huge salmon and throwing them backwards over his head on to the riverbank. He had a good head start on Buddy by about 15-20 salmon but Uncle Buddy was throwing the salmon back in the water as fast as he could yelling for Russ to stop.
Not sure why Russ finally stopped but I know both he and Uncle Buddy were exhausted. Uncle Buddy explained to Russ that the salmon were swimming upstream because they were laying eggs. That must be where my brother Russ got his desire to have a career in fishing! Never will I forget that camping trip.
