CHARLIES LIFE!

February 24, 2012

Charlie Besplug was born on May14, 1950 in Prelate, Saskatchewan. He resided on a  farm with his father and mother Micheal and Theresa Besplug, sisters Evelyn, Vicky, Angie, Shirley and brothers Toni, Ralph, Roy, Stan, Jim and Jerry. In 1954 the Besplug family moved to the town of Leader, Saskatchewan.Charlie grew up enjoying many things, he always had fun and was the life of the party. He had many of close friends he loved to be around.Charlie was extremely good at every sport he played. You could say he was a big sports fan. As a teenager Charlie spent a good portion of his day at the pool hall, Playing pool was one of his favorite things to do, and was known for being one of the best pool players around. He was also involved in baseball, which was also one of his favorite sports he played. He continued playing ball until he figured he wasnt in baseball shape no more, lol.He spent many of weekends at ball tournaments with his ball league and he very much enjoyed doing that. Also curling , bowling, and golfing he loved. He continued golfing as much as he could threw out his life, he would of golfed 24 hours a day if he could. He also was an excellent hunter, and even one year shot the biggest deer in saskatchewan.  When Charlie was in his teens he worked on a road construction crew and was one of the people who build the South Saskatchewan river bridge in Leader Saskatchewan. When Charlie was twenty years old him and two close buddies bought a cheap car and saved what gas money they could and decided to head off to the big city to look for work. They drove the car until they ran out of gas money and they ended up in Hallifax. They each got odd jobs out there but it  wasnt long before they decided to continue on with their journey. They had no choice but to continue it by hitchhiking since by this point they no longer had a car.. Hours had passed as they realized they had no luck getting a ride being three men on a highway. So they figured splitting up would better there chances on getting a ride. As it turned out the two friends Charlie travelled with ended up back in Leader Saskatchewan. But Charlie on the otherhand was determined to keep on trucken and ended up in Hamilton Ontario where he would spend the next approximently three  years of his life. Broke, hungry  but determined with finding a job and a place to live, Charlie ate at soup kitchens and pretty much stayed on the streets where he met anouther guy from the streets who told him to contact a lady named Alice DeCoste and she would help him get on his feet and put him up in one of her many houses  room and board and even help get him a Social Assistance check to help him out tell he got a job. Well Charlie thought yeah right and decided to just head down to social services and get a check on his own. Well he was tossed out faster then you could say Charlie, with not even a food stamp and smile. Well his friend knew what was going to happen and had spotted Alice DeCoste down the street and went and told her the situation. Well just as Charlies new friend said, into the buiding marched Alice, not happy about this at all.And within minutes walking back out with check in hand. This women was unbelievable and had respect by all that breathed her name. Alice brought Charlie to her main house where he was able to room and board. Alice reconized Charlie wasnt exactly the typical street person, that he was just a guy in a tough spot. Alice employed charlie with odd jobs and even bought a car for him to chovier her around. Charlie made friends with Alices many sons. But took a real liking to Alices beautifull daughtor Marilyn only 15 years old at the time. And it was love from the start for both of them. Charlie knew it would be the girl he would spend the rest of his life with.He remained living with the DeCoste family over the next two and a half, three years. In that time Charlie had got a job working with Frank one of Alices sons. But this job charlie worked with cranes and was high up in the air.And Charlie was not fond of heights so that job was short lived and Charlie then got a job working for the city of Hamilton Ontario. Crazily in love with Marilyn, the day had come when they got the news they were going to be parents, Marilyn was pregnant. So Charlie asked Marilyn for her hand in marriage. And of course the answer was YES!!! And as crazy as this sounds Charlie was so caught up with his new found life that well we will just say he forgot to contact his family and friends back in his hometown in Saskatchewan. But when you get Married you have to show your baptismal papers so Charlie had contacted the priest in Leader to get a copy. Surprized Charlie was even living nevermind getting married the priest automatically went to the Besplugs with the wonderfull news. You could imagine how shocked and excited the family would be, they immediatly wrote Charlie a letter. After recieving the letter, Charlie phoned his family and they talked all about the three years they missed. Charlies sisters Angie, and Shirley and his mom Theresa flew down to Hamilton where they were introduced to the beautifull seven mounth pregnant  bride to be Marilyn. And on August 18th 1973, Charlie and Marilyn were married. SOULMATES FOR LIFE!!!! Then on October 28 1973 Charlie and Marilyn became the proud parents to a 7 pound 4 ounce baby girl  Connie Ann Besplug.  Charlie and Marilyn knew they didnt want to raise a family in the big city so Charlie decided to head off to Leader to find work and be able to move Marilyn and the new baby there to be raised. He soon got a job at the CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILWAY and when baby Connie was approx six mouths old he moved his family to  Leader. On May 25 1978 five years later, they were once again proud parents,  but this time to a baby boy 7 pounds 2 ounces Ryan Micheal Besplug. Now Charlie and Marilyn had their complete familyand continued to raise their children in Leader. Charlie got odd jobs as a labourer after being layed off from the C.P.R. He then found himself working at the Leader Hotel where he bartendended and pretty much ran the bar for the next fifteen years or so. On july 27th 1995 Charlies daughtor Connie gave him and Marilyn there first grandchild a 7 pound 4 ounce baby girl, Erika Shayne Besplug. Charlie was so proud of her and he was the best Grandpa a person could ever ask for. When Erika was nine years old , Erikas mom Connie moved her in  with Grandpa Charlie and Grandma Marilyn. They helped raise Erika, as Connie was a single mom and wanted a good life for her little princess, and a home where there was always a parent around where she was protected, safe and always taken care of.Charlie was a pretty big part of his granddaughtors life and he and Marilyn enjoyed the many dance competitions Erika was involved in. He loved her more then words could express she was the apple of his eye. And she loved her grandpa just the same. They also shared ownership of a shitz zue puppy named snickers who ended up being Charlies best buddy for life. They spent many hours in a day just hanging out and eating which was there favorite thing to do. What Charlie ate Snickers ate. They were best friends to the end, no dought about it. By this time Charlie had enough of the bartending  and eventually landed what you might call his dream job, he was the Groundskeeper at the River Ridge golf course in Leader.Yep a laid back job for Charlie just doing what he loved to do and that would be to be surrounded with Golfing. Charlie loved his job.On June 29TH, 2008 Charlie became a once again proud grandpa but this time to his first grandson, a new baby boy, Madden Micheal Besplug. Now he had one of each and he was proud.Charlie and Marilyn spent alot of time together just kruizing around listening to there favorite music George Jones. They mostly enjoyed hanging around the homestead just watching t.v and hanging with the family. The beginning of 2010 Charlie and Marilyn were pleased to find out they would be expexting anouther grandbaby that year from there son Ryan and wife Nola. And as much as i hate to have to write this next part, Sadly a few weeks later on Feburary 24th 2010, Charlie closed his eyes and peacefully went to sleep. I myself believe he was swept away by his Guardian Angels where he is now peacefull and protected sleeping with the angels. Then on October 1st 2010 Charlie looked down upon us and smiled as he sent down a little Angel  from heaven above. His  second beautifull granddaughtor, Jorja Addison Besplug.
