Obituary

April 18
Charlie Hill Jr. was born on April 29, 1937 in Hardaway Alabama to the late Charlie and Milobelia Hill. He was one of 15 children. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Damascus Baptist Church, Hardaway, Alabama.

Charlie attended the Prairie Farm Public School System. He excelled in baseball and had dreams of becoming a professional baseball player. He left Alabama at the age of 16 to work with his brothers, John and Curtis. They trained him to be a concrete mason. He became a Master Concrete Mason. He started Charlie Hill Masonry in the 1960’s.  He was a subcontractor for one of the biggest contractors in the area, Jocama Construction, Old Bridge, NJ. His most notable work was laying the foundations for all the houses in Leisure Village in Brick NJ. He started training his sons at the ages of 10 and 9, and they both eventually started their own businesses. In the 1980’s he worked with his son Bill under the company names of BBC and Hill Concrete Inc. where he served as VP and Head Foreman to job sites all over NJ for many years. They moved from subcontractors to contractors. They expanded from concrete to all masonry work which led to more lucrative projects to include multiple home developments from K. Hovnanian, school foundations and notably the block structure of the 4 story Science Building at The College of New Jersey. In 1991, his son Danny started D-Mix Construction. They worked side by side on many projects pouring basements, sidewalks, garages, steps and driveways. Charlie continued to work with his sons and secured his own jobs as well until his passing.  Charlie was nicknamed Bill or Goat as a kid but he became the original GOAT greatest of all time concrete mason. He employed many family members and friends through the years. He also trained many young men in the community, providing an opportunity to learn a trade.

He married the love of his life, Katy Lois Peace on October 10, 1959. To this union three children were born, Bill, Danny and Debbie. He also had two daughters, Sherry and Pam. Charlie and Lois were known in the community as the couple who were willing to help anyone in need. Charlie was always taking family and friends shopping, to doctors appointments etc. or just there to lend an ear. He was a Little League Baseball coach for his son’s teams for many years. Charlie loved people. He loved telling stories and making people laugh. He loved anything fast, cars and horses. The Miami Dolphins were his favorite football team.

Charlie was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Farmingdale, NJ and sang in the Men’s Chorus. He is remembered for singing Fix It Jesus. He later joined Harmony Ministries, Lakehurst, NJ. where he was a member until his passing. He was an usher and a member of Men’s Fellowship.

He was pre deceased by his parents Charlie and Milobelia Hill, seven brothers, George, John, Curtis, Carl, Douglas, Herman, Perry; four sisters, Thelma, Missie, Loretta, Ruby; son-in law, Michael Peniston.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Katy Lois Hill of Farmingdale; son, Bill Hill (Pamela, Bill Jr., Julia, Kayla, Kyra, Miles) of Farmingdale, NJ; son, Danny Hill of Howell, NJ;  Deborah Hill Peniston ( Chelsey, Mikey) of Farmingdale, NJ;  daughter, Sherry Roach (Ebony Roach, Capri Roach Clyburn, Robert Kingsley Roach) of North Brunswick, NJ; daughter, Pamela Roach Jones (Edward Jones, Sherrod Roach, Jada Gibbs) of Jamesburg, NJ; Godson Eric Oates of Deleware; two brothers, Jack Hill, Neptune NJ; Larry Hill (Norma Jean) of Neptune; one sister, Sarah Mae Johnson of Newark; sister in laws, Verita Hill of Tinton Falls, NJ; Audrey Hill of Dayton NJ; Danielle Hill of Freehold, NJ, Catherine Askew of Lakewood, NJ, Margaret Lawton of Aberdeen, NJ; Gladys Harper (Bob) Virginia; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends.
